So America and Russia have finally patched things up and gotten together...and to the shock/disgust of the rest of the world, have turned into the most repulsively adorable couple in the universe. They cuddle at every open opportunity, want to sit in each other's lap during meetings, argue about who loves who more, have tickle fights, and other such behaviors that make innocent bystanders want to vomit rainbows.

The world at large decides that maybe it would be better for everyone's sanity if those two broke up, and tries to sabotage their relationship. They succeed, but the break up is only temporary when the two revert to their bitchy Cold War selves and the world remembers that it's actually a lot safer when America and Russia are on good terms (no matter how embarrassing it is to watch them.)

Cue a global effort to fix America and Russia back up again (hopefully without them finding out how everyone tried to break them up in the first place, since they'd probably be slightly pissed off about it.)
