Two nations with relatively few (if any) historical or cultural ties meet. Nation A gets a crush on Nation B, and is very, VERY curious about their new love-interest-sorta.

In an attempt to appreciate and impress Nation B and understand them more, Nation A tries as much as they can to learn about Nation B. Studying Nation B's history and culture, reading books written by Nation B's authors, learning Nation B's language, cooking/eating Nation B's food, etc.
