Actually, I should thank you, OP. Thanks to you this request came about, and because I am sick to death of RAEP monster Russia, I decided to try and go for something new. Yes, I know that Himaruya has made Russia a psycopath.
That doesn't, however, mean that he rapes people daily for no other reason than because he feels like it. That is not how Russia is in my headcannon, and although he's crazy and psychotic, I also believe him to still retain the ability to at least pretend to be humane.
I also do believe that Russia took care (albeit in a twisted way) of all his satellite republics. Hence why there's not really that much violence in this fic. I basically wanted some emotional interaction between the two. Okay, rant now over. *squees happily at OP's beautiful comment* ♥ ♥ ♥

This part is very much transitional in nature. I've intended it as a way to concile Gilbert's present and past and so that's why part b of today's fill will be divided into two parts of it's own. BTW, Captcha says: resident minicams. I know what you're thinking, Capthca. I do. ♥He knows that West only puts up with Russia because he asked him to. There is no love lost between the two of them and Russia always comes when he knows Ludwig will be out. Ludwig always leaves so that Russia can come. In a way he finds it rather amusing; two fully grown men dancing around each other like étoiles in one of Russia's beloved ballet productions

Continued
5 March 1953Russia doesn't return, however, and Gilbert finds himself pacing the mansion in his agitation. Everywhere he goes, rumours and speculation fill his ears with one improbable theory after another. Words like 'assassination', 'doctor's plot' and 'cerebral hemmorhaging' drift across his mind and Gilbert wishes that everybody would just shut the fuck up and tell him the truth already

This fic continue to amaze me, something like a blow in the stomach followed by a caress because it's sad and intense and you can really feel the despair, but then it's also tender and gentle. Really, this is really great.

Wow, can you believe I didn't post for five whole days? Okay, so I've finally decided that there's only going to be two more parts to this, since in my head, things are rapidly drawing to a close. I hope you enjoy what lies ahead, fellow anons, and thank you for taking the time to read this. Ps. Captcha: five gustavus. Erk?If he is completely honest with himself, he will admit that a part of him detests Russia for everything that has happened between them. All his wasted hours spent in both Russia's bed and office, the long years of eking out a miserable semblance of well-being while his brother lived in seeming luxury. Every threat of war and death that puttered out like the fuse of a ill-made firecracker and left him feeling weak and useless

... why I didn't add the usual Quick historical notes, it's because I'll be posting the last part to this soon, and both parts 5 and 6's notes will be attached to sort of an epilogue thingy I'm planning. At any rate, thanks again for your patience and time in reading this, dear anons. And here Captcha goes again: has flatness. Yes, I do feel flat, considering I have ear infection. Thanks for noticing, Captcha.

Oh God, so much for the part about posting this soon. I'm sorry, r/l caught up to me with a vengeance. orzHis brother lets him tag along to meetings sometimes, when their boss gives permission and once his brother has firmly reminded him to behave himself in the company of others. For the most part, he finds these meetings to be both boring and a waste of his time. He has never been one for stiff formalities and hemming over thick manilla folders filled with so much tedious bureaucracy. West does most of the work needed anyway

Quick historical and tranlational notes

Part 5: Kaliningrad Chkalovsk is a naval air base in Kaliningrad Oblast located 9 km northwest of Kaliningrad. It is Kaliningrad's largest airfield, a significant Baltic naval military base with four separate complexes for bomber and fighter parking.
Kaliningrad's demograghic shows that for the most part, the population is Russian, Belarussian and Lithuanian, with only 0.6% of the population being German. Hence why the people there are not really Gilbert's.
The five pre-war states I mentioned in a previous post were re-established on the 23rd of August 1990 for the reunification of East and West Germany, and were incorporated, along with the existing states or länder of East Germany, as new federal states in the Federal Rupblic of Germany.
Part 6: † Всегда как дикие и свободными, как черные орлы вы так почитают - Always as wild and free as the eagles you revered.
†† Es lebe Preußen; Gott ist mit dir - Long live Prussia, God is with you. This actually a play on the motto of the Prussian royal standard, Gott mit uns - God with us.

Beautiful, Anon! I'm glad that you're feeling better and that r/l didn't keep you from finishing this. I just re-read the whole thing from the beginning to savor it again! Like OP said so well before, this is how they are in my head. I love the way their relationship is depicted and the historical context (thank you for the notes!). Please go ahead and keep writing more because your style is a joy to read. Hope to find you again!

As I said more than once, this is a beautiful work. I really appreciate how much research you did, how accurate you tried to make it, and how human the characters are. It was a delight and more than that, it was my fangirl's wishes coming true
