LietPol - Strong Poland

LietPol is totally my OTP, but I'm getting a bit tired of Poland being stereotyped as the cross-dressing girly gayboy. If you look at his history, Poland kicked ass in the middle ages, and he had to be strong to take everything the rest of Europe has thrown at him since then.
So, I'd like some LietPol where Poland is actually strong and courageous. He doesn't necessarily have to top, I just don't want him being weak and girly. Any time period is fine. Actually, you know what, it doesn't even have to be LietPol, I just want some Poland love.
Bonus: Poland being brave and standing up to Russia, even though he knows there's no chance he'll win.

I remember long ago reading a prompt dealing with a Nation's scars, though I have no idea what part it was in. That prompt and this one kind of combined into this fill. I couldn't really manage to work LietPol in, sorry! Historical geekery notes at the end.
_________
England scowled, storming his way out of the bathroom and ignoring France's laughter echoing behind him. Stupid frog. Couldn't he even be civil when they had no choice but to be in close quarters?
It was late afternoon at yet another world conference. A formal dinner with their bosses was set to begin in less than an hour, leaving most of the Nations no time to return to their hotels to change clothes. By consequence, they were forced to change in the bathrooms at the conference center or whatever unused rooms they could find. England had already walked in on Sweden and Finland making out instead of changing, and walking into an out of the way bathroom to the sight of a fully naked France had been far too much.
"Bloody hell," he muttered under his breath, furry eyebrows

"In 1939," Poland voice was approximately the same temperature as the ice gathering in England's throat. "Warsaw burned to the ground. My people," England remembered, then, that Poland was one of the few countries besides Israel who still called the Jews his people- "My people were rounded up and herded to Auschwitz, to Chełmno. They killed us for helping our own people escape, and you," Poland pointed an accusing finger at England, who felt like he'd physically been stabbed. "You and France sat by and didn't lift a finger while Warsaw burned."
"Poland..." It took England two tries to swallow enough spit to be able to speak. "Poland, I..."
"Shut up!" Poland raised his chin, and for a moment England swore he was as tall as Rome again. "I'm used to fighting alone, Anglia, but you left my people to die." He shook his head, blond hair sliding briefly over his eyes, then turned away to grab his suit jacket.
"Poland!" England took a step forward as Poland moved toward him, but he just breezed past, shoulders tight.

Historical Notes:
In May 1939, France and Poland signed the Franco-Polish Military Alliance, wherein France promised to attack Germany if any aggression was leveled at Poland. Though there wasn't a signed treaty, the UK made a similar promise to Poland. When Germany invaded Poland in September 1939, both France and the UK ignored their promises and made no move to protect Poland. And then the Soviets invaded Poland too, and France and the UK still made no move to help other than declaring war.
In the middle ages, Poland was one of the larger kingdoms around, particularly during 16th - 18th centuries as the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth. After the Commonwealth was dissolved, Polish land was divided between Prussia, Russia and Austria. Later divisions weakened Poland further up until the aforementioned invasion in the 20th century.
During World War II, Poland was a major center of resistance against the Nazis. Even though the Poles were living in pretty dirt-poor conditions, many of them helped to hide Jewish Poles and were killed for

This was wonderful. I felt the tension between the characters As much as I love LietPol, I think the story was better without it. Poland needs his own chance to shine. Poland's been pretty epic throughout the years. Certainly not just in WWII. Polish-Soviet War? Battle of Warsaw? I don't think I've seen any fics about this.

Awww, I'm glad I was able to touch you like that. I'm actually not Polish, I shamelessly raided Wikipedia to find the Polish name for England. But I've studied Polish history (obviously) and I have a huge respect for the country and the people. I'm glad I didn't offend you, and touched you instead.

Hi, author anon.
Just wanted to say that this thing about Poland having (LOTS OF) scars because of all the shit that's happened to him is TOTALLY my headcanon.
Also that I don't see why pink + ponies + once in a while crossdressing = stupid.
Pink is as nice a color as any other, ponies are beautiful animals, and at least in my opinion crossdressing is sexy. As for the valspeak, that's a translation error in my opinion... the way he speaks in Japanese isn't nearly so 'stupid/girly' as valspeak is considered to be.
Poland is kick-ass and it makes me proud to be 1/32 polish, because if I'm 1/32 as awesome as he is, that's still pretty awesome. XDDDD

It was so nice FINALLY seeing this side of Poland for once, with him still being recognizable as the character and as a nation that's survived so much. Thank you!

Oh my. Amazing. I like how it shows that though Poland doesn't point it out normally, he does hold some grudges over this. I.. Admit that when I first read it I was shocked that France and England did not help like they promised and basically left Poland on its own.
I love how you show a more serious Feliks who has scars, that no one really talks about. And how England suddenly remembered that Poland is an old nation.

This is great so far! I love how it's from England's point of view instead of Poland's. I also love the historical allusions even though the story itself isn't historical, like mentioning France's scar around his neck. That had actually never occurred to me, but I think it should be part of my headcanon now because it makes so much sense

Ha. Oh wow, it took so long for me to write my comment that the rest of the story was posted and got comments before I even finished. ORZ
So now I'm going to comment on the rest of the fill!!!
I loved Poland being all bitter to England when no one else was around. That way, he can go back to pretending nothing's wrong as soon as he left the room and nobody except England has any idea something just happened. And England really can't bring it up to other countries because then it'll be sorta awkward and reveal his guilt. So Poland knows what he's doing, smart little guy.
Also nice to see England in a not-exactly-positive way for once. I know he's the fandom's favorite character, but he's had his share of evils as well. Once again, interesting to see it from his perspective.
I know you said you couldn't fit in Lietpol, but you just couldn't fit in explicit Lietpol. It was still there, but really subtle. Like how in the first part, England remembers how only Lithuania is allowed to touch Poland's back and in the second part, Poland
( ... )
