Alfred Jones has always been the bad boy of the US Figure Skating circuit. He's got loads of raw talent but lacks the discipline to follow through with it and honestly he doesn't mind coasting along with his fourth and fifth place finishes because his looks and attitude always get him laid no matter what the competition. He goes through coaches like water until no one else will take him on. He mistakenly thinks this means he can stop skating but his father has already invested a ton of money into him and his going to get something out of it. His father digs up some old guard Russian skater Ivan Braginsky who had won a ton of medals and had just gotten into coaching when one of his skaters suffered a horrible accident on the ice and he disappeared soon after. Alfred's father tracks him down and offers him enough money to convince even the extremely reluctant Ivan to take Alfred on as a client

Alfred relished in the feel of gliding on the ice, and the smell of the ice rink. It reminded him of flying, and he extended his arms up and behind his head with a smile on his face. He liked flying, liked the feeling of wind in his hair. He always liked going fast. Roller coasters were nice too. His mind wandered as he lazily pushed on the ice, the tip of his blade making a small niche in the ice as it propelled him forward. He spun lazily, his legs winding and swirling over the ice as he whistled the song currently playing on his ipod. He inhaled deeply, licking his lips and placed a hand on his stomach. It growled unhappily under his palm, and nipped at his other organs. He wondered when he'd be able to get some breakfast soon. Arthur had woken him up at about six in the morning, thrown the skates at him, and told him to stretch. Well, not literally thrown. But you know.
Alfred blinked, suddenly remembering that Arthur had woken him up for a reason. But what was it? He reached up and pulled an earphone out

This sucked.
Alfred grimaced at the outfit. Arthur always had a thing for pirates, but this was just ridiculous. Gold hemming might have looked good, and it probably did, but all Alfred saw was a ridiculously puffy shirt that annoyed him intensely. Why couldn't he have just worn normal pants and a shirt? Weren't the judges going to judge him on how he skated?
Well. Fuck. Now that he thought about it. He didn't even remember his routine. Shit. Freaking Arthur. Harpsford had resigned this morning, and was too afraid to tell Arthur. Alfred had forgotten to tell Arthur before the competition. It's not like Harpsford did anything, but still. He had no routine. Alfred wondered how much complaining it would take Arthur to convince him to let him ditch this competition under the guise of getting sick from a bad scone or two last night

Got up late this morning and have been running around like a crazy person since but now that I've gotten a chance to settled down for a quick check on the mail what do I find...but this! *beams*
Seriously you've made my day, afternoon and evening with it. The characterizations are fabulous. Alfred trapped in a world he loves but doesn't, Arthur the Skating!Dad and Ivan calmly pinning so much with just a glance of the TV. I soooo can't wait to see what happens when those these two finally bump heads it's going to be glorious!

'Alfred trapped in a world he loves but doesn't Yes! That's what I was trying to go for. My headcanon is that he likes everything about skating, except for the pressure and being forced into it. Being pushed when he doesn't want to and wanting to go at his own pace. But he loves the ice. <3 /poofs.
