I just found out how ttly canon this is, and now I need tragic angsty fic.
In 1219, Denmark defeated and annexed Estonia. In 1329, the Danish king pledged that Denmark would never sell or abandon its Estonian territories. However, in 1346 Denmark sold Estonia to the Teutonic Knights (Prussia!), breaking the pledge.
So what does this mean for Denmark and Estonia? Were they in love? Was the pledge of 1329 a 'marriage proposal' (I'll never leave you) or a way to break down the last of Estonia's resistance? How did Estonia feel about Denmark breaking his promise and selling him to Prussia?

Did you know Talinn, Estonia's capital, means "City of Denmark"?
