First!Author/Dream!Anon, to the rescue. It wouldn't leave my head until I posted it.

Another Hero, Another Mindless Crime

Arthur is bored. While this might be the status quo for most nations while stuck in a meeting on an unseasonably gorgeous Monday morning, it's extremely strange for him. Usually, by now he is shouting at either France or America, if it's the former he'd be seconds away from punching the stupid frog and if it's the latter he'd be nursing a painful headache because of the idiotic git. But both America and France have yet to speak, Alfred is writing notes to Canada on a copy of the minutes (Mathew, although looking rather bored himself, is not responding, at least he raised one of them with proper respect and manners) while Francis' eyes have glazed over. He looks as though he is staring at one of the many paintings on the wall, but the quirk of his mouth makes it clear that he is remembering more enjoyable times. Arthur is this close to picking a fight with Francis just because of that - a gentleman doesn't think ( ... )

Slowly, sound and sight filters back in. He hears the sound of his heart beat first, his veins working in turns with and against gravity. His breathing comes next, he is absently concerned by the raggedness, the harshness of it. He sounds as though he has run a marathon while sitting still. Like a mixture of impressionism and abstract artwork, the rest of the room sluggishly comes into view. He resists the urge to rub frantically at his eyes when his vision does not clear even after a few, endless minutes. There is something in the corner, looking broken down and as though it has been cobbled together from spare parts. It is roughly the size of a refrigerator, but it looks nothing like one. None of the visible décor matches - steam spits and hisses from a large crack in one side, two planks of wood appears to have been duct taped to another side, and the final visible side is made from a seamless expanse of dull metal. It looks broken down, it looks like nothing he's ever seen before, and Alfred's half triumphant whisper of 'aliens' ( ... )

"Care to tell us who you are, mate." Australia speaks up, one quelling hand on New Zealand's shoulder. It would be a request, only his tone and the inclusion of 'mate' making it a politely worded order.

Alfred looks at him, and whatever Australia sees in his eyes startles him enough that he sits back down without another word. In contrast, Alfred climbs to his feet. "I've come to warn you." He looks up, looks at Arthur, really looks at him, and something in the other's eyes … they're wrong and he can't … he can't…

"I'm sorry. I'm so sorry."

He can't breathe, he's drowning in storm-tossed blue, his head is under water and

"You die."

He cannot BREATHE and now everyone is looking at him and ohgod his throat is thick and heavy and closed and ohdeargod

"I'm so sorry."

His lungs are on fire and no one will meet his eyes and he has to leave to get out togoleaveflee ( ... )

America, the real America, is tangled in South America and Canada. They all look equally shocked, but as the other Alfred begins to describe what they found inside the government buildings (no, don't listen, don't listen, hear no evil), America's face slips into true fear. Australia and New Zealand are silent, but they grip each other's forearms, knuckles bone white. Sealand is surrounded by the Nordics, wrapped in Finland and Sweden's arms while Norway and Iceland protect his free side. Denmark is standing, one hand buried in Norway's hair while the other rests on Sweden's shoulders. Alfred is telling them of what they found in a nursery, and Denmark's hands are tightening as Finland pulls Sealand's face into his chest, shielding him. Next to them, Germany sits completely still, face made of stone as a sobbing North Italy climbs into his lap. South Italy is next, silently holding hands with Spain. As England watches, a tear traces its way down Antonio's face. Seychelles is next, sitting in France's lap already, head buried in Prussia ( ... )

"Don't you understand?! This isn't just Arthur! That was … that was just the start." Alfred's voice breaks, and for a moment he sounds so young and vulnerable that Arthur wants to gather him into his arms. "It wasn't terrorists, see. It wasn't a biological outbreak and it wasn't an invasion. Have you not been listening to me!" His voice rises into what is almost a shriek, Alfred pauses, and visibly gathers himself together. He speaks again, voice deadly cool. "It was your elections." At the other's words, Arthur's stomach turns to stone within him. No… "It was supposed to go to this Saxon fellow … all our intelligence says that he would have been little better than a puppet figurehead for an organisation called Kingdom." Something about that name stirs his memory, he gets a flash of paperwork, 'Kingdom' emblazoned across the letterhead. "They wanted to create a second British empire." Someone lets out a chocked gasp at this, but he can't pull his attention away from the tattered figure in front of him for long enough to figure out who ( ... )

Alfred blinks at him, before giving a dry cough and lowering himself into Liechtenstein's chair. "I've saved your sorry ass, hopefully."

His tone, wiry, self deprecating, but underneath it's still so wistful… it's wrong. So very, very wrong.

"You've killed yourself." His tone is flat, uninterested. He has to be uninterested, has to be flat, dull, ungrateful, blunt … when more than anything, he wants to take this dying child into his arms (so much like Alfred, so very much alike and so very different, he could be another brother).

Alfred's expression of disbelief and shock is almost amusing. Almost. In the 'haha, you went into the cellar, now you're completely fucked, you poor, sorry sod' kind of way. "No, I haven't. I've saved us. Everyone! I know who they are - what they've infiltrated, what they control - everything will be okay! Nothing will turn out lik ( ... )

This was a pretty interesting read.

But sadly anon got a little insulted by naming all the countries. And then just... "South America". Thanks for clumping all the culturally independent and significant countries into one 'entity'. If you deanon, I think you should change that.

But other than that... anon really enjoyed this. It was very emotional and nicely written.
