Alfred had to be the most perfect student ever spawned. He was the goddamn golden boy of the entire school. His optimistic presence was everywhere you looked, and it was nearly impossible to avoid being caught up in the hype the other students had for him.
It made Arthur sick.
For the first few weeks of school, Arthur had observed Alfred throughout all the classes they had together. This boy appeared to have absolutely no flaws when it came to his execution in the classroom. Alfred had the demeanor of an absolute twit, and yet his performance in class was nothing to scoff at. He was constantly raising his hand, demanding the teacher’s attention, his answers nearly always correct. And yet, from what Arthur could see, Alfred was constantly babbling to the others next to him. How does he manage to do so well in class while behaving so poorly? Arthur found himself wondering half the time

Their relationship could only be described as…eccentric. Arthur had a built up loathing for the boy, and yet Alfred seemed completely oblivious to this fact. Alfred was very touchy-feely, always clapping him on the shoulder or pulling him into a hug for no reason other than his love for life, Arthur supposed. Alfred was one to tease, which Arthur did not appreciate. He wasn’t used to a barrage of insults so often, and he would usually stutter and become angry whenever Alfred decided it was the perfect moment to poke fun at him. Alfred would then laugh and tell Arthur that he was being “too stuffy” and “acting like an old man”. It wasn’t Arthur’s fault that he took things far more seriously than this carefree boy did

Alfred looked up from his “journal” in confusion. “I concentrate hard…” he said, a pitiful defense in Arthur’s mind, and yet just an innocent answer as well.
“Well, I never see you actually studying for anything…” Arthur said, envious thoughts entering his mind

Glad to see this one is still being continued! :-)
Love the character build of the both of them. Shinning star Alfred and poor bitter Arthur. I love that you've given us little glimpses of the deeper person Alfred is underneath the shine though just small enough to make what's in store for him all that much more painful. Wonderful work anon!

oh, god there are TWO amazing fills for this prompt! I really like this one too; the characterization is really good, and I can't wait to see where you take this one
