US, CAN, & Brotherly Love anonymous March 5 2010, 17:36:52 UTC
England criticizes Canada sharply for the patriotism showed by his citizens during the 2010 Games. (See a recent editorial in the Times Online for inspiration). America doesn't take it well.

What I want is to see America defending Canada, much to the shock of the critical nation, and Canada not being all weepy-eyed and "OMG!!! AMERICA NOTICED ME!! MY LIFE IS COMPLETE!" Because that's not the way we roll up her in the Great White North. ;D

Some good, old-fashioned platonic brotherly love is what I'm looking for, the kind that says, "I can pick on him, but nobody else can."

Make it as WAFF as you wish, anons!

Apology For Patriotism? 1/2 anonymous March 9 2010, 00:51:32 UTC
Anon warns readers for suck-age...this is the first time I'm submitting something to this LJ group and the third time I've written something for Hetalia. Please bear with me...

Canada gapped, hands gripping the mouse tightly and his mouth hanging slightly open. He blinked rapidly and adjusted his glasses to make sure he was reading what was on the screen properly. And he was. The Canadian had simply wanted to check his Yahoo! mail after returning from watching a replay of the Canadian figure skating team winning gold. What he got, though, when he clicked open the Yahoo! homepage, was a strange title: Englishman wishes Canada would apologize for winning. At first, Matthew had been curious despite his nervousness for what was to come should he click the link. But deciding not to jump to conclusions, he clicked the title and was transported at in instant to the full length article. Now here he was, shocked and upset, as he scanned through the whole thing a couple of times. His lips were pressed together and his eyebrows knitted. There ( ... )

“Listen Matthew,” he began, his voice a bit harsher then expected, “it’s not that I don’t believe you have the right to be proud. Why, I myself was happy for you over being chosen to host the Olympics.”

The shorter blonde nodded.

“But really, my boy, why can’t you control your people?” the Brit folded the paper up neatly, as if it were a document he was ready to dismiss. “I mean, Mr. Barnes was possibly a little more…crude then necessary, but he did bring up a good point.” England passed the paper back to a silent Canada. “I believe you may owe the countries that have come to take part in the sports here an apology for your rude and rash behaviour during games. You may have a chance to regain that soft, sweet title that fit you so well.”

Apologize? For what? For being proud of himself? For shouting and jumping up and down when his hard-working athletes managed to gain a medal or at least a running? For not feeling like he was being ignored and pushed around? For reminding everyone of his existence ( ... )

“You heard me, caterpillar brows,” America folded his arms and took a spot a bit behind but definitely beside Canada. He tried to look menacing which failed but the slightly shorter twin appreciated the attempt. “You say you’re sorry to Mattie right now! And will you and the rest of the countries get off his back about being patriotic! Honestly, I’m sure you Brits are just pissed at your medal count or something ( ... )

Anon, what a great fill! I really like the dynamics between Arthur, Alfred, and Matthew. I still can't quite figure out what made the British journalist so irate; he obviously knows nothing about Canada or Canadians. I could understand the objections if it was a 'we're better than you' or 'we're #1' type of patriotism, but that's not our style. ;D

I guess it can be summed up as a love of country, versus a nationalistic 'Us vs. Them' type of deal.

Ah, well. We'll see what happens in 2012.

Glad you like it, OP ^^ Yeah, I'm thinking he was irked by the way we were all happy at the medals we were getting and thought it unkindly for us to be this way even though we're proud :/

Either way, it annoys the heck out of me >.<

Thxs Alfred, for...er, sticking up for us XD

...I must find this article and BURN IT. RAWR. Canadian!Anon wants to punch England now. Jeez. IF we're not allowed to be loud and happy ON OUR OWN SOIL, then all of you other people are HIPOCRITES LIEK WHOA. Shame! /rage

...Apparently that pissed me off. Huh. I'm sorry. Allow me take a moment to point out that we broke TWO world records. That I know of. *shakes head* And this is why free speach is sometimes a bitch.

My first thought when I saw this prompt was one line from this clip right here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lrA4V6YF6SA
The Canadian Prime Minister had to go before parliment yesterday and urge Canadians to engage in what he called an 'uncharacteristic outburst of patriotism' saying "Don't be afraid to wave those flags. We'll appologize to the world for our immodesty later." And apparently the other guys name is 'Al'. XD Can you say irony?
That clip makes me HAPPY in so many ways. <3 Canada getting international love. <3<3<3 My Social Studies ( ... )
