Canada didn't go with the US when Alfred asked him to join him during the American Revolution.
What if he had?
I'd like to see an AU where Matthew and Alfred decide to rebel against Arthur together. Maybe the taxes were intolerable. Maybe Arthur was simply smothering them both. But whatever the cause, whatever the impetus - the North American Colonies declare their independence from the British Empire. Together. Yes, I know that there were a number of significant political/social actions etc that prevented this from happening in real life - this is fanFICTION

An idea for any filler-anons: what if the Quebec Act wasn't passed, or passed too late? Parts of it (cultural & legal rights) were designed to pacify the Canadiens; and there are plenty of other Intolerable Acts for the 13 Colonies to be angry about. That'd also place the Letters to the Inhabitants of Canada later, maybe with different content. Franklin et al could be content with Canada simply not belonging to Britain, instead of trying to get it to join the Congress; and the non-elite Canadiens weren't particularly enamoured with Britain anyway. Don't feel obligated to use any of this, since I'm not OP, I just had a thought. ^^;
If you wanted to pull in Acadia/then-Nova Scotia, you could get rid of Henry Alline (pacifist religious leader) and/or make Britain try and control the people & Planters more from big bad Halifax. Though the question would be if they side with

The Quebec Act was part of what inspired the original 13 to rebel, but it was only one reason of many. However, had the act not been passed, I think the Canadians would have been more likely to side with the 13 colonies.
If you're to use that argument, then wouldn't the lack of the Quebec Act work inversely with the colonist rebelling? Since the reaction from the colonists was: "OMG THE CROWN IS ALLOWING THEM TO HAVE FRENCH LAW AND BE CATHOLIC?! AND WHAT DO YOU MEAN WE CAN'T TAKE THE OHIO VALLEY?!"
Though I do agree that Canada probably would have sided with the colonies without the Quebec Act... at least been more persuaded to side with the colonies. However, I tend to think that without the Quebec Act, the revolution would either have been put off or never happen since it was one of the KEY acts that set off the Colonists.
Perhaps even Canada would have been the one to rebel instead of America without the Quebec Act, in which case it would turn the entire prompt around. /rant

Because there is not enough badass!Canada in this fandom. I second/third/whatever-ing this with all my being.
OP is right though. Let Freedom Ring. Read as: last time I read a Revolutionary War AU, it made me bawl like a baby. Please, not again.
I would totally write this if I had any skill. Hell, I'd probably try anyway if I didn't already have two MASSIVE ploy bunnies dominating my brain a la Domtalia. D:
'the january' Captcha seems to think this started in January. Hmmmmm. Well, Canadian prairie winters are a bitch. *first hand experience*
