I’d love to read a fic about the USA’s steady rise to power during the XIX century (and beginning XX), specially England’s thoughts and feelings about it, as he’s being replaced as the world power by his ex-colony.
It's outrageous, is what it is. The whole concept of America the Hero, America who is fashionably late to every war just so he can swoop in and take all the credit later - Arthur couldn't look Alfred in the face for years out of fear he'd punch that stupid smirk off his stupid face and cause an international incident. How very like him though, how sly, to take advantage of difficult situations, even the really, really hideous ones

HOW DID YOU KNOW MY WEAKNESS FOR MANIPULATIVE!AMERICA, AUTHORANON?? I fucking love you like Romeo loves Juliet. I want your babies. NOW
I loved this beyond what I expected of the prompt. I like Arthur's indignation and old-fashioned views, his conflict between feeling proud and curious (because he admires power) and outraged that he's been displaced and declared obsolete. Mesianic America was also very intriguing, whether he really ended up believing it or is just a front.
Alfred fancies himself a modern-day Jesus, but Arthur would like it to be known that he was around when Jesus was just starting to toddle around Jerusalem, and Alfred...
LOL I love when this comes up, when nations older than dirt remind youngsters they were around "before Jesus" xDDDDD
Arthur would have more respect for him if he just sat up and admitted he'd been manipulating the world since nineteen-fucking-fourteen (what sort of unnatural country came out of a war with a booming economy?) instead of fooling himself.probably my favourite line. Who indeed? i

america is like some miracle child that just cannot be beaten down. it's beyond me. (oh, arthur is just an old hypocrite~ who cannot organise his thoughts properly apparently /shot.)
thank you for prompting something so awesome; i was scrolling past and just couldn't resist. :D

And how very like Arthur not to recognise his own raging white-man's-burden, we're-raping-this-country-for-your-benefit complex.
