History Based (Cheerful) Anything Goes

(Partly inspired by the historical anything goes on page 10.) I've noticed that a lot of the historically based fanfics around here end up being angsty and sad and usually centering around war and economic troubles and such. Not always, but a lot of them.
So I'm requesting something based on a GOOD moment in history. Something that the nation in question is happy about. Other then that, anything goes, anons! :D
Changing Tides [1/3]

November 4, 2008Canada knocked on the door to Newfoundland's house in St. John's and hoped she was home. If Labrador was the only one around, that would be fine, too. He wanted to do something, anything, to celebrate the occasion beyond just giving the two of them the bottle of ice wine he'd brought from B.C., but he didn't know what they liked to do. He didn't like admitting it, but Canada knew he'd gotten to know his easternmost province as well as he should have. Maybe today he could change that

She ate a piece of cheese and a couple of crackers, washing them down with some tea. They sat in easy, companionable silence. Being around her wasn't like being around America or Mexico. He didn't share enough history with Mexico to feel so at home with her, and he often felt like he had to watch what he said around America. But Newfoundland was different. Her history with European nations went back farther than the rest of North America. That made her their older sister, he supposed, though he wondered if America would admit it. Then again, he remembered how close they'd been during World War II, and what she'd done for America during the September 11 crisis. Knowing America, he probably saw her as family, too - when he remembered her

Long notes are long. Thus, they get their own section. Newfoundland & Labrador is the official name of the province, consisting of Labrador (which is part of the Canadian mainland) and the island of Newfoundland. I've chosen to 'Hetaliafy' them as two separate people, because there are very distinct differences between them

Nova Scotian!anon is in love with this fic.
And very glad that you picked a region that's actually understandable to people outside the province. (although part of me can't help but think that Newfoundland would pull out one of those accents just to get a confused look from others. Cab drivers in St. John's do it to me all the time)

Newfanon here! I'm so happy to have found a Newfoundland fill, and it was really well done!
My head canon also has Newfoundland and Labrador as two different people, and with the same genders you used here (Newfoundland as a woman, Labrador as a man).

Thanks!
I think it makes sense for Newfoundland and Labrador to be separate rather than Hetaliafied as just one person. Female!Newfoundland makes a lot of sense to me, given our history. Women tend to be the ones who hold things together for the family when times get rough - and we've certainly had our fair share of those since 1497. ;D
Great catch on the cookies. Jam-Jams were the only choice. LOL!

I kind of want a fill dedicated to Canada showcasing his foods to other countries. Like Purity Syrup ("So you mix it with Vodka, da?") or Poutine ("How dare you call this 'French cuisine'!").
And then they all get hooked on it and can't get it anywhere else in the world! >8D (I think a lot of Purity products are Newfoundland only, even, with maybe a bit of a market on the East Coast [or Fort Mac, lol].)
Actually, now that I think of it, what do you do with Purity Syrup? I know one person who mixes it religiously with Pepsi, but... XD;

The Purity products are so ingrained into life here, I think the government would have to step in if anything happened to the company. lol!
Purity syrup is mixed with water, like a forerunner to Kool-Aid. It used to be a Christmas tradition - at least it was when I was a kid - but I'm not sure if it is anymore. Then again, I remember eating Purity Hard Bread just out of the package (not cooked, or in Fish and Brewis), so yeah. :D
According to the company's website, they have their products across the country, though I'm sure they're mainly concentrated where there are a lot of Newfoundlanders, and they're MUCH more expensive 'up along' than they are down here.
All this talk about Purity makes me want a Peppermint Knob now!

Newfoundland was so well-written, anon loves the personality you've given her :D

I've seen some 'America interacting with the individual states' fills, so I couldn't resist the chance to add some Can-Con.

You had me at 'Luh'.

She'd do it at First Ministers Meetings without a doubt.
