Queen Elizabeth I sometimes slept in the same bed with one particular female servant (can't remember her name, unfortunately) for "warmth". Of course castles of that era were incredibly chilly at winter, and the taboos of the time were somewhat different from ours, so it's possible for a modern reader of these accounts to read a bit too much into the matter. I don't even remember where I read this, but suggestive paragraph is suggestive...

Elizabeth looked at the world with thoughtful, shrewd amber eyes that flickered black as sloes. She had all the bold brashness of her father, the calculating impetuousness of her mother. Possibly the only paths to her were glory or defeat, wondrous victory or terrible ruin

Elizabeth sighed but remained wordless. It became more and more difficult now to view the queen in midst of a fawning crowd of false admirers. England gritted her teeth most behind an ostrich feather fan but at least when she wore doublets she could dance attendance more visibly with her queen. A victory laurel was in the fact that none of those men would ever touch Elizabeth, glorious Elizabeth, like this
