Au. Antonio is a criminal mastermind/crime boss and Gilbert is the law enforcement given the task of catching Antonio. Too bad Antonio thinks Gilbert is absolutely adorable and decides to make him his, breaking him down slowly until Gilbert 'realizes' that really, Antonio's a better guy to follow than the law he once upheld.

Gilbert had been sitting at the counter for thirty minutes, watching the hooded figure conduct his business at a table full of mafia bigshots, the kind of men who smoked Cuban cigars and plotted murder before returned home to their wives and children. He drank a little to blend in with the rest of the crowd. The bar was about half full. He was the only one who did not speak a Romantic language

"He is very dangerous. There's been many reports recently on his family's activities. Of course, we've never caught him. He's too good for that. There's also the possibility that his family may merge with the Vargas's. There's been reports on that as well. I've seen him talking to the Italians, personally, so it's a justified fear, I believe." Lieutenant Arthur Kirkland, having finished his diagnosis, set his papers down on the table along with the others. The desk was messily strewn with papers.
"Well, shit, he's not that dangerous," said Gilbert, his feet perched up on the table. He had unbuttoned the top of his uniform. They were off-duty. "I was two feet away from him. He had nice manners. Damned nice manners. Better than yours, Kirkland."
"Of course," bristled Arthur, "you haven't seen him in action. Your brother could tell you. The last mafia war was initiated by him. Yes, I know that everyone says that it was the Braginski-Wang conflict that brought in the others, but realize this: who is the only person capable of forming a

Ooh, intriguing. I can tell Antonio is gonna be delicious...and Gilbert's got no chance of winning this at all...(why would he want to?) It would be interesting to see Gilbert be badass in Antonio's name though (and woefully inept as a good guy?)

Really liking this so far. Only thing I would say is, when Antonio first addresses Gilbert in part 1, he shouldn't call him an Anglo-Saxon, because Anglo-Saxons are Saxons who came to England. He should have just called him a Saxon instead.

When he had tired of waiting, he called up the barkeep. "I'm looking for Carriedo," he said in as official of a voice as he could muster. He thought about flashing his badge but decided against that. It might cause trouble. Who knew? Maybe some mafioso would come bursting through the door, complete with fedora hat and pistol in hand. That would cause a real riot

It was not a long drive, perhaps not more than twenty minutes, but when they reached their destination the day had turned to late afternoon. There were shanties next to poorly-constructed housing projects. He could feel the eyes of the poor and suffering on him as he was led into a basement and made to sit in a straight-backed kitchen chair. Soon after, Antonio Carriedo came in and sat across from him. Four of his men were relegated to the corners of the basement. They were armed and there in case of an emergency

"You see, the law enforcement likes to resort to words of justice or else, guns. But they do not do anything, nor will they ever give you the recognition you deserve. Why? Because you have a record. Let's face it: you're in a bad position. Why not come work for me?" Antonio calmly stood up and flung the cigarette away on the ground. He went to Gilbert's side and sat on the table so that they were only feet away from each other. "Fiscally, there is no comparison. Social and political contacts, you'd have them all." His eyes ran a look up down down Gilbert's body so frank that for the second time in his life that he felt his very thoughts were being read

"Shall I run off the names of officers? I personally know of many lieutenants and officers. They personally know me. I make it a point to meet with them. The better ones, they invite me for coffee, but that's not important right now. In any case, they are all on my family's payroll. How else do they get their tips? All of those anonymous tips you read about in the papers?" He lightly tapped his chest. "They come from me. You might wonder why I do this. That is not important either. But this may interest you: six years ago, a police captain was exposed as a corrupt, evil man who had been on the payroll of the Russians. It was part of the last War, wasn't it
