Russia, Prussia and the Cold War anonymous May 5 2010, 17:04:34 UTC

Russia gathers up his Soviets, his satellites and Finland to inform them about the leadership change. His speech starts out well, turns out disjointed but at least positive before it takes a dive into the bizarrely horrifying as he cheerfully and graphically describes how Beria begged for his life before they killed him. He finishes with pondering how this could happen to other bosses as well.

“His speeches were better when Stalin wrote them,” Slovakia whispers to Prussia and Czech.

“Who would have imagined we would ever miss Stalinist propaganda?” Czech whispers back.

***

Hungary, Poland and Romania whisper together too. How nice that Hungary and Romania get along. Hungary doesn't like to hang out with Prussia when her other friends are around, does she? Prussia almost started to feel bad about how he threw away her letter, now he realizes he made the right call. It's better if she makes an effort to get along with her own allies.

Czech and Slovakia bitch about the five-years plans to Russia, who doesn't pay much attention. Joking and ( ... )

Prussia stays behind so he can meet Khrushchev again, he hasn't seen him for years. Khrushchev is very pleased when Russia refers to him as his new boss, the succession is in reality far from settled. But if Russia wants it to happen it most likely will. Prussia can't really remember anything very negative about Khrushchev except that he was fawning over North Korea and was as loyal to Stalin as everyone else. At least he never made fun of Prussia and he seems to be genuinely enthusiastic over the future. And he and Russia finally make good of the promise to creating their own defense pact. West joining NATO was the last straw.

“How could he?” Prussia hisses. “Bastard.”

“I wonder that too,” Russia says.

They call it the Warsaw pact for short because that's where it's signed. Poland is not happy at all over this but he keeps his dislike to himself just as Hungary. They both sign where they are told without a word.

Czech and Slovakia sign together and congratulates Russia on the good idea. Bulgaria is pretty quiet but polite as usual. ( ... )

All of this makes Prussia feel strange and not in a bad way.

“It's because you're becoming more of a real nation again,” Russia says when Prussia tries to explain the feeling. “I'll make everyone accept you right away if I could, I don't like the idea of German Unification. I keep telling my boss that.”

“Khrushchev wants to dissolve me too?”

Can't any of Russia's bosses be a little bit supportive?

“No one is getting dissolved... And we of course want you to dominate the unification Germany if we do that.”

“I think my brother should keep his part of the country. But he has to stop being such an asshole.”

“There is a lot more world out there than Europe,” Russia says. “I'm going to make other friends and I think you should too. I think a lot of nations would rather be friends with you than your brother who represents the imperialists.”

“That's not such a bad idea... And I think you should hit me.”

Russia looks at him as if he has gone mad before he says no.

“Maybe I started to heal faster again. I want to know.”

“You'll find out eventually,” ( ... )

God, Russia, you loonXD. His creepiness in this chapter made me lolXD

Poor Latvia...although it was calling for it, Russia being there. lol. I like how you handled Finland, by the way, specially the fact that he likes to keep his other partner worried, and asumedly fawning over him, makes for a nice change from kind!Finland. Same thing with Prussia and the German reunification, I love that in this fic he's not looking forward to it. And why should he? Excellent and fresh, anon ;)
I like all the little historical details, as always. We open a new chapter of the book with Krushchev...what will happen now?
I just noticed that this fic works so well with me because I know poor Prussia is going to fail at everything he tries...but even if I feel bad about him, I can't help but be fascinated by how it will come to be, and ( ... )

Thanks :)

And how in USSR fairy tales begin not with 'Once upon a time' but with 'Soon...'.
I must admit I didn't make that up completely myself, it's from an Armenian Radio jokes that goes This is Armenian Radio; our listeners asked us: “What is the difference between Russian and English fairy tales?”
We’re answering: “The English fairy tale start with ‘Once upon a time…’, and ours with ‘It will be soon…’”

Prussia feels ill when he finds out that America's minions have dug from West Berlin into his part to spy on him and listen in. Russia is more right than he ever suspected. There are spies everywhere and why aren't his own doing their jobs properly? Prussia yells at them to do better. His boss promises that they will be more careful in the future ( ... )

Russia argues with China and Albania for a very long time. Prussia and North get bored within minutes and Prussia tries to teach her about European history instead. It confuses her as well, especially to imagine Russia wasn't always communist and actually called himself the Russian Empire until not that long ago. But she likes the parts about the wars. They're Prussia's favorites too ( ... )

Prussia and Hungary get picked up before Russia goes to deal with Poland. It should have been Russia slapping Poland down for going off on his own and choosing another boss than the ones Russia approved of. It doesn't turn out quite like that ( ... )

Some human soldiers have decided to guard Hungary's house and Prussia almost doesn't get in. He doesn't want to get into a fight with the Hungarians even if he knows he could overpower them if he wanted to. The problem is solved when Hungary comes out and tells them he can come in ( ... )

Prussia is horrified as he finds out he is about to convey Hungary's answer not only to Russia but the the entire Warsaw pact as well as China and Serbia who for once is officially representing Yugoslavia. Smart move of Tito, he has issues with Mao to put it mildly, but China quite likes Serbia. Even if he has to hide it from Albania ( ... )

I can't express how happy I am that people like my OCs, it's always nervous to add them...

Perhaps Hungary comes of as unsympathetic because of Prussia's POV, I kind of think Prussia makes as stupid decisions as her but he comes off better since it's his story... They both wanted to be axis powers of petty personal reasons and their citizens ended up paying the price of that...
