Arthur lay back on the ground of his tent, letting out an audible sigh. The day had been taxing, emotionally more than physically, but still. He had seen only glimpses of Alfred since their discussion. He generally tried to avoid him in camp; he didn’t like to break rank. Yet he couldn’t help but wonder if he’d done the right thing earlier

OH, this is so awesome! I've always thought Alfred must have realized at some point that he was different, not just from the Old World countries, but even from the New World ones as well; I know he's smart enough to have noticed, but I always wondered if he wished he was the same as the others. I can totally imagine him feeling this way around the revolution, then later pretending he never wished that things would just slow down and stay the same -- that he could just remain a child, loved and protected without judgment or expectations. Because after all, that's not a very heroic thing to wish; I can imagine him seeing that as a (shameful) weakness later on. Very cool, anon. :D
This paragraph in particular was lovely: He stopped and looked at Arthur meaningfully, as though hoping his eyes could convey what words could not. It was enough. Arthur knew what he meant. What was happening between them was unstoppable. The boy was growing up, change was coming, and there was nothing either of them could do to stop it.... Okay, so I

I'm not all teary, what are you talking about? I'd probably be bawling, but for the angry German music I'm listening to right now. XD
Oh man, this: change was coming, and there was nothing either of them could do to stop it. I confess to squeaking and pawing the screen. That was just... such a punch in the gut. As of now, I am amazed this hasn't been done before that I've seen. And this: He could only hold the boy as tightly as possible and try to fight the horrifying felling that he was slipping away. *wails* I'm never going to look at the 'Storage Cleaning' strips the same way ever again. :'(
Refreshing's not quite the word I want, because this is kinda depressing, but it's definatly different in a good way. I don't think I've ever seen Al being scared because he's so different. I think I love it with all my soul. <3 England's promise that everything would even out both made me happy!squee and gave me chills

Chapter 1..... the first chapter here..... it is so much like my relationship with my own mother at age 14..... let me just quote the parts that make me suspicious that you used some kind of telepathic ability to uncover certain inglorious events from my adolescence.....
Alfred was quiet, his brow furrowed. Words were not his strong suit, and Arthur knew from experience that he was taking his time to formulate precisely what it was he meant to say into the right words.
and
Arthur grew livid, and without thinking he struck Alfred flat across the face.
It was difficult to tell who was more surprised. They stared at one another, Alfred with his fingers to his cheek and Arthur with the offending hand still held midair.
Move out, Alfred, move out, move out, and you'll learn to love yourself in time. I believe in you.
