1992, February: Their first date, predictably, was a hockey game, and it wasn’t even a date until Canada threw himself at Russia in triumph as the team they’re rooting for and kissed him full on the lips like nobody’s goddamn business, amid the wolf-whistles of the people in their section, fellow season-ticketers who they knew well, for humans

Canada’s answer is firm: “Yes. And he’s staying here with me.” There is no room for argument. Russia swells with pride. He loves it when he sees that his boyfriend can stand up for himself. Russia encouraged him to do so for much of their early friendship, and when Russia sees that Canada has finally gotten the hang of it, Russia is reminded that he doesn’t have to worry about his lover quite so much as he does. Though Canada stands up for Russia much more often than he stands up for himself

Dear everyone,
February, 1993 and the stuff I wrote about it could use some additional fun facts, perhaps: --Canada is upset over the events of January 28th,1993: 6 Mushuau Innu preteens attempt to commit sucide by inhaling gasoline after their entire community is uprooted and moved to the Davis Inlet from their historic caribou hunting grounds and are told to set up a fishing town, leading to a almost complete collapse of their community. --Canada’s boss: Brian Mulroney’s popularity drops severely, in part due to the Innu preteens, and he eventually resigns on February 24th, 1993. Wiki it: people hated the dude. Later I might write a more elaborate fic about Canada’s reaction to the Innu preteens and how much of a dick Mulroney apparently was at the end of his term.
About France: He’ll be giving Russia the shot gun talk sometime when Canada isn’t there. Also when Russia is several time zones away. About England: I have never written him before. Soooo… he’ll probably improve from this point in. About America: It turns out he’s a

Cool to have history mixed in with feel good fluff- I'm a hardcore RusAm shipper, but this fill is forcing me to make an exception. Loving your adorably acceptable Francis, and Arthur is hilariously hysterical. Everything is nice and flowy, until! Happy yellow Sponge? Nooooo the anachronism- it BURNS! Wouldn't even mention it, but seeing how you have a timeline all nicely set up... SB didn't appear till ~2000ish. A more suitable hero for Al would be Darkwing Duck. I can totally see him having the PJs, bedsheets & plastic gun back home :P [90s fun- if the generation gap is too strong, check out http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=375ENQbru8s]. Bookmarked & looking forward to more ^_^b

or else having my mistakes pointed out would burnnnn~
Basically this is why I should have three or four betas, not just one. The massive power of my mistakes, typos, and blunders--not to mention my tenses--clearly cannot be contained by one person! D:
Alas, my timeline leads me to ruin. I dunno if they make Darkwing duck slippers, but if they don't I'm sure Al had them specially made! That is to say, if my deanoning happens as plans, I will certainly take your advice. And next time I'll google my pop culture.
I was actually born in 1993! =O And I didn't watch TV ever as a child, either, it's a miracle I even know who Spongebob is.

lol this whole place is built upon having no shame. I'm glad to be of help; this fic is such an indulgence for me. Not my OTP, none of my usual kinks, but damn it if I can't stop looking for its appearance on the fill list :)
Invoking the power of a Nation to create silly slippers=AWESOME & IC. New headcanon says Al used to tie a towel 'round his neck and jump around corners, especially when Matt slept over :3 Darkwing Duck was huge when I was a tyke, like many moons ago. Damn kids, writing on mah lawn *shaking my cane*

lol sounds like me. Thanks to anon for link...dont worry about that though there was this one on him having a computer and englands all like 'you trying to show off with your fancy computer that wont be made for years??' and then that infamous episode with the alarm clock hundreds of years before its made. My head canon? They can time travel.

Love, love, LOVING this fic. The minor historical details, and their changing relationship is awesome! Definitely would continue reading any more you've got anon ;u;
Just.. "slippers which look like the queer yellow sponge so popular with America’s children" Spongebob didn't air in America until 1999, and not in Russia until a few years after that. Not something Russia would know about in 1993. Unless Russian spies really are just that good :P

First: There's lots more! 1994 is nearly done, and then after that, why, I AM covering seven years!
Second: Yes, the 'Bob issue was pointed out to me by the anon above! For the purposes of this, uhh... if they can have alarms and computers and glasses before their time, then Alfred can have stupid yellow slippers?

I could go into Canada's system of government, since Hetalia and writing this fic have made me a dork for that kind of stuff. Instead, I will say that your adoration is much appreciated and that comments fueled 65% of August of '94.

Awwww, this was very lovely. Matt is awesome! And Russia such a sweetheart, I love the mix of nervousness and uncertaity he has with those little bursts of subtle darkness. Papa Wolf France and Daddy Wolf England were much appreciated ^^ but actually, what surprised me because it was awesome was America being so cool! Man, that's a bro ;)
perhaps remembering that the last time he had used that particular tone of voice defying him had immediately resulted in Canada turning into what America calls, ‘Manada’ when he thought Canada isn’t listening
LOL, he really is such a broXD
Canada thinks that he’s likely offended by the very notion of someone loving Russia, not to mention that the person claiming to is related to him.
That is so...so...so England xD
slippers which look like the queer yellow sponge so popular with America’s children.
Lol, I wanted to laugh about Al's taste in clothes, but really, Bob is so queer *snort*
He likes that America is so very protective of Canada: it means that even if Russia fails, America may

The first thing I thought when OP asked for America/Russia friendship was that it was a great chance to show America NOT being a dickwad xD Sadly I can't take claim of the term "Manada", but I will admit that I use it absolutely as often as possible.
Russia strikes me as someone who can be very selfless under the right circumstances, though obviously with his obsession with the Baltics he's not always so free with things. But if the end of something is something as important as someone he loves being safe, I think he'd accept almost any means to make that happen. Also, you haven't seen depressing Russia until you've see, A), the other fic I'm working on and posting alongside this or B), the fic my friend and I are co-authoring at the moment and will hopefully post to the kink meme someday soon. Surprise spoiler: All three fics are hockey shippingSadly, France's talk won't make it into 1994, even though I wanted it to. It just wasn't applicable to the theme of the fic. I do intend to write it and post it as a bonus... After I finish

1994, FebruaryThe 1994 Winter Olympic games go on for the better part of February. When Canada realizes this, he is thrilled. He knows that his boss will be going to the games, at least a great deal of them, and Canada decides that he should take the two weeks off to go to the games-it is, in fact, customary for nations to take at least a week off to view the games
