I had thought that at one time their was a request for a Chobits style AU, but I couldn't find it, so I went with Anything Goes. If you happen to find a more appropriate prompt, please tell me. Concrit welcome!Arthur had bought Alfred when he nineteen and fresh out of college. After going through all of college with merely a notebook, Arthur had known what he had wanted. Every year he’d glanced around as his classmates giggled and played around while their laptops recorded everything. He had had to type all his notes up, had to wade through web searches, and sort through technical jargon until his eyes nearly crossed. Thank God for Kiku or he’d never have lasted with the blasted thing. When he got out of college and got ready to become a constable, he saved up every penny he had and went to buy a laptop

o///o Th-thank you for the very kind comment! And yes, I do plan to un-anon eventually, since I want to put this up on my ff.net account with corrections. Unfortunately, updates are going to go more sporadic soon, since I still have to write the next few chapters. It doesn't help that the computer I'm using TURNED OFF right when I was in the middle of a chapter, meaning I lost about half of what I had. *headdes*
If I can get my scanner working, maybe I'll do a picture of them. They really are adorable.
No comment is unconstructive! It actually greatly encourages me to write more.

I'm sorry about that D: I've been a victim of the sudden shut off many times before (my computer is old and its positioning means it tends to get full of dust but I have nowhere else to put it). This is why I've become a compulsive saver when I write anything on it. I tend to write a lot in notebooks before I try typing up anything on the computer too, but that means it takes twice as long to get anything done.
That would be spoiling us ;w; I keep picturing Mei-Mei with pretty decorative flowers for her 'ears', if you see what I mean. It's just too cute (I'm going to get taken away for using that word so much, I know).

God, it was totally worth the heart-break of seeing Arthur's reaction to Alfred breaking; this is so awesome/adorable that I can't stop grinning. :D I love the explanation of Alfred's sudden super-strength -- that kind of does makes sense for a Companion -- and he really does remind me of a puppy, here. <3 (But Alfred, honey. Exploring your new Companion body like that is a bit awkward. OTL)
And oh, that one line of code. I see what you did there, author!anon. XD
... I can't believe it took me till now to notice Kiku using honorifics for Alfred. Heh, I'm willing to bet it's not just out of respect for Arthur, either.

I am really enjoying this story! I love that you're updating so quickly. It's become one of the highlights of my day :) Though, I wouldn't even mind if updates started coming only once a month! I'd wait very eagerly and patiently.
I can't wait to see how they adjust to Alfred's new body! But I'm curious...will there be sex involved? If so, I hope Alfred tops, pfft.

Wow, this fic is so awesome! I didn't like Chobits too much, but you've taken everything good out of the series and brought it here...I love how you managed to parallel England and America's story in this verse, in a way, and now England's going to feel useless and insecure about the new situation, while Alfred is ecstatic about his newfound strength and freedom...that was awesome! I also love how other characters keep popping up around, like Monaco or Taiwan and thank you thank you thank you for Scotland/France <3 Will we see anyone else? hoping for Spain and Russia
I can't wait for the next chapter! Will Arthur keep getting insecure about Alfred's good looks?

Oh, it's definitely coming back to haunt them later.
I really wanted to keep the heart of America and England's problems: two people who love each other and were once close that just can't find a way to communicate or relate properly anymore. Arthur and Alfred have quite a few problems they're going to have to work through. Scotland/France is love. I keep hoping were going to see him and the rest of England's siblings soon. Also, Spain is at least getting a name check. Russia is at least mentioned, but I can't decide how much I want him in the story. I wanted to include some lesser used characters a bit.
Next chapter should, unless something bizarre happens, be up sometime tomorrow.

This chapter was actually supposed to be part of the next chapter, however I decided to split it up. I hate to do it, but I can you promise a longer chapter for tomorrow.

Unconsciously, Arthur pressed a hand to his mouth in shock. That was nice, Arthur. You lose him for two miserable, god awful weeks, and the first thing you do is yell at him and make him feel horrible. “I…Alfred, I…didn’t mean to…mean for that to come out like that.”
“Well, what did you mean?” he retorted, taking a step back until he pressed up against the other wall.

Oh my god.
My love for this fic knows NO BOUNDS, seriously. I love Alfred, with his sweetness and good looks and vulnerability, love the consistency with which you explain how robots work in this AU, and lord knows I love poor little Arthur and his...his feelings - I felt for him when Alfred "died", and even more so when everyone else (except Kiku) in his life just brushed it off like it was nothing, like what Arthur and Alfred had was nothing. I love Alfred being all dorky over his new body, admiring his abs and pecs!! Haha!! :)
Also, I lovelovelove the whole juxtaposition with the touching, and how it's the same for Alfred but definitely not for Arthur. It's like he's hyper-aware that he has a Companion now, even if he refuses to dwell on that little fact... I hope we get to learn a bit abot Al's programming, how it's different from before and all the new things he can do (like bathing!).

Oh, man. I loved the way you took this, their first problem that will probably arise again and again...so Al us a touchy-feely unit, and Arthur feels conscious now. He reacted so harsh! Way to go, Arthur, I felt so bad for poor Al... the way you described his expression, backed against the wall, oh god. And Arthur's already reacting physically to him and his attentions! Man, Alfred must be gorgeous.
A question: how do people immediately recognize Alfred as a Companion robot?

While a Companion could be mistaken for a handsome/pretty person, they don't have ears--they're more like bright, shiny circles. The woman noticed the ears, but the other guy was just wondering why Al was hanging on Arthur. Both Arthur and Alfred overreacted (to be fair, Alfred's still running on a laptop's behavioral programs, which is cute on a laptop but overblown in a Companion).
