Russia and America - MAD is suicide

Suppose nations can't be permanently killed unless their entire populations are wiped out and their lands reduced to radioactive wastes. Like if they were the victim of a nuclear war.
Russia's always been a bit unbalanced - partly because of his bloody history and the way General Winter's always picking on him, but also partly because he would genuinely like to make friends but never learned how because everyone's always avoided him for being big and scary. So around the Bolshevik Revolution he basically snapped, started forcibly taking over other countries, turned into the batshit rapetruck we all know and some of us love. But suppose he got tired of being lonely and crazy

“Okay, well, Russia - Ivan,” America corrected himself, “Ivan, I’m guessing the reason you called is because something happened today to set you off. Right? What happened? You can tell me anything

OH MY GOD that was fast! You just - I only put it up yesterday! *flail* And you did it so well too <333
I didn't even think of that possibility: that America has to talk him down. Repeatedly, by the look of it. And it was so realistic, the kind of things he said. "Don't give up, it'll get better," etc, the only thing most people can think to say when confronted with someone suicidal. But he honestly cares, even though the danger of the situation (crazy archenemy much?) is well preserved. He cares because he's the hero and he can't let people (even commies) try to kill themselves. X3
Ooooh, I am so so thrilled about this fill :3 You made me happy yay <3 Now I have to go write a fill to spread the happy.

Ah so this is where all the good orators went ... poor men/women who had to stand by that phone just waiting for Soviet to call and knowing what would happen if...ouch.
Also the fact that there was a double side (being nuked was a big reason he didnt want Russia to die, the white lies, etc) made this darker. . .and I LOVED IT.

Ouch.
I like the idea of Russia calling America during the Cold War over this, and I like America being so put off by the idea that one of them could hate their own people.

“You don’t care about me.”
“I do now,” said America, “Because you dragged me into this. I’m the only one who can kill you, and I’m not going to because I don’t want you to die.”
“Shut up… stop lying…”
“I’m not lying. Don’t give up, it’ll get better, I know it will!”
“It always gets worse, and worse, and -”
“If you keep saying that, it will, so you can’t say that -”
“I want it to end, America, you have no idea how long I’ve wanted it to end“Ivan, are you alone?” asked America tentatively ( ... )
