AU. Alfred and Arthur are a couple, although they don't broadcast the fact. Why? One is a secret agent/war hero/police officer/superhero/take your pick who is very good at his job and has therefore made himself a lot of enemies. And his one weakness is his boyfriend. In fact, his main reason for doing what he does is to make sure that his significant other can live in safety.
Cue enemy!nation of your choice finding out about their relationship and using said boyfriend to take revenge on/emotionally break the other. Any and all kinks welcome. Make me cringe, anons.
Bonus 1: Home invasion, while the other is out heroing. Bonus 2: Attacker either phones or manages to send a live feed of what is happening to the other, who due to work is too far away to do anything but listen/watch.

Arthur Kirkland got the phone call at his office while he was filling out a considerable amount of paperwork incurred from his last outing. He picked it up with a distracted "Hullo

My heart was pounding near the end, there. Geeze. D8 I'd love to read more, oh yes please! I'm really interested to see how much of this was a dream, or if it's not yet happened, and who the man on the other line was. fff
Congratulations anonauthor, you have succeeded in making OP cringe. And also earned my undying thanks and love for filling this.
Wow, what a suspenseful start. Agreeing with above commenters that the image of Alfred is going to be haunting my sleep for a while. And that last line! Was it a dream? Something Arthur was imagining could happen? A flashback, in which case Alfred D:? I'm dying to know what happens, please update soon!

Arthur blinked a couple of times before realizing that he was lying in his own bed, and it was far too late, or early, to be at work. His boyfriend snored loudly beside him, and had kicked off the blankets at some time in the night. Arthur, despite his intense and irrational relief at seeing Alfred right there, alive and well, rolled his eyes. Alfred was the single worst person to sleep in the same bed with.
Arthur sat there for a while, letting his fingers tangle in Alfred's hair. The American frowned in his sleep and swatted at the hand sloppily before his eyes cracked open a fraction.
"What are you doing?" he groaned. "Got a class early tomorrow, and then I work..." he blinked a couple of times, and then looked at Arthur. "Another dream

What set them off mutually was Arthur's genuine fear that one of the many criminals he'd put away in his short but so far illustrious career would find out about them and do something to Alfred out of revenge. Alfred could not stand Arthur when he got that way. Would not listen to him if he started talking about it. Arthur learned early on to explain away the nightmares he got, to let Alfred believe that he didn't worry quite so obsessively about him. So this was a problem in communication

Loving Alfred and Arthur's interactions, anonauthor. I like how you've explained away Alfred's strength, and worked it into the relationship as an antagonist in itself.

Alfred frowned at the twenty-six text messages on his cell phone, and deleted them en masse. He was really sick of the wack-job who insisted this was the right number, and had half a mind to report the creeper to the police. And then he laughed. He wasn't a girl. One day, he would call the return number and set the poor dick straight. Right now it was just a nuisance, and an easily rectified one at that.
"Looking good today, Jones!" someone called from the other side of the courtyard of the university campus. Alfred looked up and grinned.
"Same to you, Williams!" he retorted, and watched his former roommate run over. "What's up?"
"Asked Katya on a date," Matthew grinned lazily. "And she said yes."
"Way to go, bro. What about her ex, though? I hear she's got a frying pan..."
"Well, we'll cross that bridge when we get to it," Matthew said, and then grinned devilishly. "I was thinking a good ol' healing threesome, though. Have you seen the tits on Elizaveta Hedervary
