Helen And Paris

The artists' studio smelled of turpentine from the paint and rancid fruit from the still lifes. Alfred Jones wrinkled his nose as he walked in, and wondered why someone didn't open the tall windows on the east side of the room to dispel the smell.
A couple of painters looked up as he walked in, and one crooked an appreciative eyebrow just briefly before returning to his vase of hyacinths. Alfred coloured slightly, and patted the Bible in his breast pocket unconsciously.
He didn't like being ogled like that by someone he didn't even know. Part of him wished he was back in Washington where people knew better than to let their eyes roam in such a manner. But this was Paris, and he was among artists"Ah, Alfred! So good to see you!" came the familiar, exuberant voice. "Your journey was safe, I trust

!!! I've been waiting for someone to fill this since I read the prompt, and oh the way you've started. ♥ Francis' laissez-faire attitude, Matthew's act, the tension between them all... Can't wait for more!

Woah. didn't see that coming. lol America brought his Bible with him. As with many things about America that is both face-palm worthy and completely adorable. I can't wait for the next part!

YAY! I'm so happy this is finally getting filled and I love your choice of painting (And artist. David is a very bold but direct choice, because he held such an important role in not just the art world but in the political realm as well! *catches breath, very excited*)! -Oooh, as the girl, Alfred's really gonna have to stretch before holding all those awkward poses for such a long time. Nonetheless the cross-legged leaning is something I could easily see him doing (His "security-blanket" Bible made me laugh!). -Oh wow and Canada as Paris is quite drool-worthy...bed...so...close!
I sincerely love what you have so far and can't wait for you to continue!
Author!Anon giggles right along OP...

Art Nerds Unite!
I have to admit I have willingly bended the fabric of time for this whole thing to be possible. David's 'Paris & Helen' was painted in 1788 on commission from the Comte d'Artois, and this story is taking place post-war of 1812. :D My rationale is that David sometimes returned to certain subjects and themes, and whose to say a second 'Paris & Helen' isn't somewhere in someone's private collection, especially when InterPol's still unearthing works that were looted by Nazis during the occupation of France?
So as a result you'll find the pose in this one very... shall I say different, or better? from the 1788 version. :)

"No. I'm not doing this," Alfred muttered, and tried to look anywhere but the near-naked form of his infuriatingly British, intoxicatingly French neighbour. Unfortunately, the candle light rather redirected these attempts back to Matthew, who was looking at him with a wicked grin of amusement

"Francis, what is the purpose of this painting?" Alfred asked suddenly, trying to keep his mind off the fact that Matthew was caressing him, one hand splayed possessively across his arm, and the other curled in his hair that Alfred had let grow since he'd emerged from New Orleans to find out that the war was over. "For whom has it been commissioned

Authoranon, this is a gorgeous fill. Truly. There's something so alluring about the way you write Matthew and Alfred's interaction. I hope you will see this story to the end.
On a side note, something in this fill piques my memory...Have you written fanfiction for Hetalia before unanonymously?

Omgosh if I'm wrong, I'm going to be so embarrassed -is already blushing- and I'm sorry ahead of time if I've confused your genius with that of another, but by any chance, did you write any stories on ff.net that involved Canada as a bratty ghost, victim of a lobotomy, and with cannibalistic tendencies among others? Its just your use of the name Despre that makes me wonder...-hides in a corner-

-headdesk- It appears I really can't distinguish between what's canon and what's not anymore. Yup, that's all me, though usually I'm not so lazy that I can't give Mattie's surname an accent...
OP rubs chin intrigued

Hmmm...Matthew is getting handsy...verrrry interessssting! Seems as though he's pretty eager to work out all that awful repression from Alfred(I can smell the sexual tension burning through the screen!).
I like your plan here too, that David is making a private work for himself. Again very interesting and actually very believable. I mean all artists paint for their own purposes as much as they do for comissions.
Very well written so far (You've really got the characters down pact, considering their time periods) and I can't wait to read more! Canada referring to America as "dear" just swept me off my feet!
America is comes to an artists' studio in Paris on a favour that France has finally called in.
