Any/England- Ironic weakness

Every nation's got to have weaknesses or fears, but anon would love to see a good dose of irony in there. So, how about England, the island nation, not only not being able to swim but actually being terrified of water? However, the stiff upper lip means very few nations, if any, actually know.
Anon would particularly like to see it all coming out after England nearly drowns when someone messes around and pushes him into the Thames, or something equally daft, intending to be funny.
Bonus: Someone goes into the water after England to save him and has to perform CPR when he doesn't immediately bounce back, as a nation should.
2nd Bonus: Explain how England managed to be such a successful privateer with a phobia like that.

Fuck! England thought as he flew through the air, watching the laughing American on the bank of the river, slightly grateful that at least he couldn't see the water come at him. He cursed as he landed somewhere in the middle of the river, trying to use swearing to alleviate the panic. Fuck. Can't swim, can't move, can't do ANYTHING! He flailed his arms and legs about, trying to calm the panic and resist the impulse to just take a deep breath and relax. If he could just get his head above water, it wouldn't be so bad. Of course it wouldn’t. He kicked his arms and legs wildly, but still kept sinking. No! He would stay calm. But he couldn't breathe! There was water everywhere, pressing on his arms and legs and eyes, trying to get into his mouth and nose. It was everywhere, always trying to eat into him, take his coasts and his towns! He tried to calm his thoughts, but ended up taking in a great lungful of water instead. Fuck! That was it; he was going to drown again. He relented to the pressure, and took another deep breath, just to make

'Hey, England!' Of course America would come running after him. Couldn't let a drowned man have a decent strop. 'Hey, wait up!' He grabbed England around the shoulders to help him to the car. 'You're all shaky. You should sit down

Huh, I really liked this! I didn't expect anything quite so in-character, but England's (well-hidden) insecurity and (obvious) pessimism and volatility were spot on. And so were America's foolishness and thoughtlessness, as well as his urge to be the hero; heh, and like in real life, that urge was both a good thing and a bad thing here. Good thing in the short term, but in the long run? ... Oh, America, honey. :'D
I especially liked this: "Fuck." England thought as he hit the ground. "I've turned it into a game." P-poor England; I can practically hear him facepalming.
Ah, America's thoughts while he was panicking were kind of hilarious for some reason. Realistic, but still hilarious. ... I may be a horrible person. OTL And England's reaction once he got his breath back was perfect. Trust England to not only NOT choose between "fight or flight" but to even curse America out and get all depressed and sulk/brood, too. :'D
Suddenly American "helpfulness" was starting to look a lot more terrifying than the crossing of the

Yes!! Someone who actually points out the reality that sailor =/= naturally knows how to swim! I don't know if you intend to continue this, but oh, how I wanna read America's awesome swiming course now. Great job, writer-anon!
