"I'd like to see a future fic in which America's empire falls during the third World War and events lead to England regaining his Empire title and not only reclaiming a big chunk of his former colony's land (and in thus reclaiming Alfred) but celebrating as all empires do with invasions of vital regions, arrogance, and more war."
It already has a fill going, but I was hit with inspiration!America had never really understood the phrase ‘feeling diminished’. He understood feeling small, or scared, or even helpless. But he’d always refused to feel weakened or cowed. It was something he’d vowed to himself a long time ago. He’d never let anyone make him feel like less than he was. Eleanor had liked that, had taken it and run with it and said “No one can make you feel inferior without your consent

A/N: Large chunks of italics denote a flashback. *** “How’re you holding up, Al?” Canada asked, resting a hand on America’s shoulder. In contrast to America, Canada looked flushed with life, taller and stronger than ever before

A lot of the Southwest and the lower half of California went to Mexico, and oh, Texas had been so very pissed off about that. But even his Lone Star knew that he didn’t stand a chance against the rest of the world. Alaska, the remaining West Coast, and several of the most northern states went to Canada’s growing empire. It already stretched across the Bering Strait and into Russia’s vast wilderness. That was some kind of consolation, at least. The Russian Federation wasn’t long for this world either. Hawaii had been taken by Japan midway through the war, and America hadn’t heard from her since. The remaining states in the center of the country and Florida went to the Native American nations, to be divided amongst themselves.
“People are going to flee there,” America said. “A lot of the government is going to end up there, eventually. You’ll have all our resources and manpower and technology

England’s office was the very picture of a proper English study. Bookcases lined the walls, a fire crackled merrily in the fireplace, and the furniture was almost unbearably posh. A map hung on the wall, marking England’s new conquests with the Union Jack flag painted across them. The flag covered all of the British Isles, Iceland, several hundred kilometers of Italy, and most of Western Europe. The border between the British Empire and the Central European Alliance ran straight through Germany, and America figured there wasn’t a single country that didn’t see the irony of that

Oh wow... this is powerful stuff.
America broken, letting his states go in order to save them (I like that you included the Native Americans in this!), finally surrendering to England.. my heart was breaking for him.
I do hope you'll continue this, author!anon. You've got an amazing set-up here and I'd love to see more.

Anon who just found this fill agrees with the other anon. This was fantastic, and well set up. Nice balance between the national and the personal. The geographic division makes sense, as does the inclusion of the American Indian nations, since they already have many of the basic frameworks of sovereign nations--though at present they're considered dependent rather than being independent micro-nations--they'd have the ability to have legitimate separate government. Anon suspects they'd end up with a similar law to American Samoa, which restricts governing to people of Samoan descent

Intensely fascinating. The amount of imagination it took to craft this fill--I'm so impressed. I can't wait to see more: this has the makings of a real gut-wrencher.

Thank you for all of your encouragement, anons! It really means a lot to me.There was no backing out now. Especially not with his President and all the cabinet members who were still alive gathered in this room and facing off with England and his armed soldiers. There was no escape at all

“Oh America,” England said, reaching up to twine his fingers through America’s hair. America was expecting to have his head roughly yanked to the side, but England just petted him for a moment. “We really do need to have a talk about how things are going to be. Come on

England turned to him unexpectedly, unlinking their arms so that he could cup America’s chin. The touch was almost tender, and America felt dizzy from the conflicting emotions. “I’d never regret buying you.”
And then England pulled him forward and kissed him again.
America wanted to melt into it, to take the comfort and the love being offered and just forget about everything that had happened for a while. He leaned against England and kissed back, just for a second. Just so he could pretend that things were normal.
Then he pushed away, shaking his head. “England, I can’t…I need some time, I need-” America gestured to the devastation around him. “And even once I don’t feel so…you did this to me, England, you hurt me

“No, not all of it.” England sounded contemplative. “Why are you here, America?”

Is this meant to be specifically English rather than British? Did Scotland walk out on the UK and drive England insane with loneliness?
Would you prefer it was Japan that took you? Because he wanted to. He was actually very insistent about it.”
Very curious about this. (See, America, you could've improved your animation and comic book industry..)
You’ve never been conquered
Everybody forgets about the North conquering the South and the punitive Reconstruction. :P
I am adoring this, so glad you're continuing!
