America/Fem!England, reincarnated nations, angst

After some kind of terrible war happened, humans turned on their nations, blaming them for everything. So the nations, half to protect humans, killed themselves to be reincarnated when it was safe.
Flash forward a few hundred years. Humans are sorry for what they did, and eager to find their nations and make amends. (I'm talking borderline worship here). But all information was destroyed, so they only know the barest details (eye colour, maybe part of a name)
Enter Lieutenant Jones, who's having a great life, only gets terrible nightmares sometimes.
Bonus: Some nations are already aware, and looking for others (thinking that humans still hate them) Bonus 2: LOTS of angst, like 'But I want to be human' also if a America loves Fem England, but Alfred loves his human wife Bonus 3: Hero-worship of nations, who freak out and often run off because they can't handle it.

A/N: I shouldn't be doing this. I have too much to do already--but damn if I'm not. ###
He runs; behind him, a helicopter’s spotlight searches for him while police squads squeal their tires trying to catch up. If he slows, trips, or screws up in any way, they’ll be on him in a second. It’s a miracle they don’t have a sniper waiting somewhere as well

He blinked slowly when she abruptly pulled away, frowning up to the top of his head. “Something wrong?”
“Lean your head down for me, would you?”
Confused, he complied as she lifted her hands up to his hair. He closed his eyes and smiled as she ran her fingers through his locks, feeling quite content until she pulled out a hair. “Ow! What was that for?”
She paused then grinned and showed him. “This, my dear, is your very first gray hair.”
He gaped. “No way,” he retorted snatching the hair away and holding it up to the light. “No, see-it’s just… very pale.”
“Uh huh. Give that back and let’s have another-hey!” she shouted as he tossed the hair over the side of the bed. She frowned and slapped his shoulder. “Don’t toss stuff on the floor, old man. No wonder you’re a pervert-I married a perverted old man

i usually never comment, but this fill just looks so promising <3 i love the dynamic you have going between these two, and al's character. interesting how you made al a totally new reincarnation and not just a human version of himself with the same image.

I like this. It's intriguing. I have an odd feeling in the pit of my stomach though. I am really interested in seeing how things are going to go down, I mean work out. It's only the very beginning, but you already have me completely hooked, A!A.

The nightmares never went away worse; in fact, they only got worse. Sometimes they started simply enough-a camping trip with a pair of men that Al had never seen before in his life but felt such deep affection that they might as well been brothers, or lying on his stomach on a tatami mat while bumping against another man as they played video games. But then the nightmare would truly begin when the scenery would change to a round table, half filled with a wide variety of men and women, all with the same mix of fear, pain, and sorrow on their faces. They would talk about something, a topic so frightening and depressing that more than one person at the table would start to cry or jump to their feet, yelling. The only comfort he would have in that scene was a warm, slim hand in his, clutching at his with equal force as he gripped theirs

He stared up at her for a long moment, letting the noise from their boys playing in the other room to filter. What if he was sick? He had hardly had enough energy for the boys lately; if he got worse he couldn’t leave Emily to look after them alone. He owed it to them and his wife if nothing else. He nodded to her. She smiled in relief and pressed a kiss to his temple. “You should try to just relax until I get home-just play with the boys for a bit.”
“Can’t,” he sighed, eyeing his coffee gloomily. “Promised I’d help Ethan fix up his roof today.”
“You can’t do that when you’re like this, Al!” She smacked his shoulder for emphasis. “What if you get dizzy and fall?”
“I’ve taken worse tumbles than a fall off a one story roof,” he grinned, more to himself than her. Like hopping over the side of an overpass to escape the cops… He paused, blinking slowly before he remembered that he’d only done that in his dreams

“Yes, mama,” they replied.
Before they slipped into the other room, Adrian-the quieter twin-looked back to Al. “Daddy, will you be okay?”
Al managed a smile. “Sure thing, bud. I just need to relax and I’ll be fun. You go have fun with your brother, okay?”
Adrian nodded and finally ran off with his brother.
He sighed and nodded into his arms. I should be in there playing with them, he thought with a frown, not sitting here exhausted before its even noon. Maybe I really do need to go to the doctor.
Emily patted his shoulder and wandered off, putting her mug into the sink before going up the stairs to get ready for work. Speaking of work, I need to call Ethan to let him know I can’t work today. Wincing at the thought of letting his friend down, Al stifled another sigh and stood up. He was almost out of the room before he remembered his coffee mug still sitting on the table. Grumbling, he turned around to put it away; as he turned and reached out, he glanced up and then paused as he saw his reflection in the patio’s sliding glass

Third anon from before here. Okay, I just thought I was hooked before. This is just...I have no words. The changes that are happening with Al, the vision in the glass, his and his wive's feelings (that she has given voice to) about everything that's going on with him are just so poignant and emotive.

The reflection scene was awesome though. (The new Al looks so different!) Argh please continue!

“Thank you,” she murmured, bending down so they could share a kiss. A pair of retching noises coming from the door interrupted them; they shared an exasperated smile and one last quick kiss before pulling apart. “We’ll swing by tomorrow afternoon to see how you are. Rest well until then

In spite of the new, unsettling location, Al managed to have a good night’s rest. It left him a little surprised, but grateful nonetheless, even if he did wake to an almost painful itch from his stitches
