Multiple possible pairings - Death Note crossover

The story shouldn't be the same as the original and the two characters should also be very different from Light and L. Could also take place some years after the original DN story. I'd just like to see chara A gaining a deathnote and starting to eliminate a certain group of people with a world-known detective chasing him. Lots of mind games. And an actual love story. Happy or sad end doesn't matter.

As for the pairings: A/B: A is for killer, B for detective:

America/Germany
Denmark/Sweden
Spain/Switzerland
Canada/Russia

if you have an ingenious idea for another pairing, don't hold back!

Bonus 1: Or England/Scotland, Scotland/England, who're real brothers and then, instead of being lovers, have a love triangle with France?
