June 15, 1940, Lithuania was overrun by the Red Army. Approximately 35,000 - 40,000 of the city inhabitants were arrested by the NKVD and sent to gulags at that time. July 21, declared Soviet rule. Which is only a small bit of what happened, but you get the setting and the feelings involved. ^^
Late July, 1940, and the Soviets were already in control. In addition to the 20,000 troops that had come along as a condition for the return of is beloved capitol, Lithuania had suffered an unfair monopoly of elections, and the arrest of tens of thousands to be sent to gulags. How did they expect to have a fair election with this much threat behind the officially 'approved' ballots? The government hadn't yet finished moving to Kaunas for safety when the Russians came in full force. All of the options led to one place, and it was the place that they all least wanted to go. At the same time, some of his people were swayed by fear of the Germans who were practically at their doorstep. So much for the friendship they'd shared-Germany's boss was

Oh, now that was a sore subject. Lithuania righted himself, and he seized the wrist of the man who had spoken before his hand could touch him. Without meaning to, he squeezed. The soldier, easily five inches taller then the slender brunette and double his weight, gave a grunt of pain.
“What seems to be happening here, comrades~?” An all too familiar voice rang out over the heads of those gathered. All faces turned towards the doorway, and the men parted like the red sea. Violet eyes closed in on their target-and one ash blond eyebrow rose. It was then that Lithuania realized that the hold he'd had on the man's wrist had tightened, and he let go swiftly.
“Oh, I'm sorr-!”
“Der'mo,” The man cried, cradling his injured wrist. “I think he broke it!” A murmur started up around them, and Liet shook his head quickly

“Comrades,” Russia nearly sang, “Bring me a chair, will you?” Several men scrambled off, eager to obey. They carried back a chair in no time, a wooden chair with a low back and sturdy legs on it. Lithuania recognized it as one of his favorite hand-carved pieces of furniture, given to him many ears ago by his people. As irony began to set in, Russia's gloved fingers seized his chin, turning it and tilting it up to meet his eyes. “Well, Toris... You have two choices.” He said in a matter-of-fact tone. “You can go over my knee like a naughty child,” The men laughed and jeered at this, and Liet's cheeks burned hot with color, “Or~...” The pause brought quiet again, wide smiles on all the soldier's faces, while Lithuania's heart pounded in his throat. “You can take your punishment like a true soldier-standing, and with my belt.” A second round of raised voices, each man having his own opinion on which option that the small nation should choose

The pain alone as they reached-“Desyat,”-ten, was not normally enough to cause the stubborn brunette's tears to fall. However, it was the added strength to the lashes, as well as the knowledge that his shameful and undeserved punishment was being watched by all of these foreign soldiers, that caused the first hot streaks of tears to race down his flushed cheeks.
Smack, snap, crack, “Trinadtsat!” The men all chanted. Some of them were actually sobered by the sight of Lithuania's expressions-the seemingly fragile man who had so carelessly nearly broken their comrade's wrist reduced to tears. In his head, the brunette was counting along-silently in his own language, keturiolika, penkiolika, šešiolika-Ah, almost finished! But he was sobbing silently now, tears dropping onto the closed fists on the seat of the chair as his body jerked at each new blow-as they were all overlapping by now. He'd risen completely onto his toes now, back arched and each breath either a sharp gasp or a low whimper. From the top of his ass to half-way down his

I knew it, the great RussiaLiet Author!anon has struk again (unless I'm mistaken and you are not that RussiaLiet Author!anon who has written a buch of stories for the pairing.) You spoil us Lithuania fans too much and we love you for it.
Ah, ,Toris, poor brave abused Toris. How we love thee and enjoy thy suffering at Russia's hand! :)= I particularly liked the historical detail and the fact that the Russian soldiers were as sadistic as him. Lithuania was absolutely in character, the way he tried to be polite yet stand up for himself at the same time. Ivan of course, was the best, nice and evil and caring and frightening all at once. I enjoyed reading how even his own bully soldiers were afraid of him.
There aren't enough sunflowers in the world to give you as thanks for writing this. It's my OTP and I just can't get enough of the two of them in such settings. Thank you so much for the great job.

Yes, I'm one and the same bum whose written a good eight stories with Liet now (as linked on 'invisible restraints'). ^^ I'm in love with historical detail so much I find it hard to begin a fic without knowing where it takes place. And I love being able to write Toris as strong-willed as I believe him to be. And Ivan, well he has a habit of disregarding people for his boss, or what he wants (kept the Winter War going despite losses, and well, 1905). So I imagine he's both revered and feared. It's my OTP as well (obviously X3) and I never tire of writing settings like this! ... As sadistic as that mat be >3>
