Thought of this while watching today's inauguration.
America/Russia: While watching America playing with the Obama children, Russia is reminded of happier times with the Romanov children.
And then maybe Russia starts crying without realizing it and America sees him? Can lead to comfort sex or just just general comfort-fluff. I don't mind either.

Russia’s head snaps up, and America is standing less than a yard away, watching him with narrowed eyes. His eyes are so blue, even from this distance. Hard, yes, but so blue. He puts no thought into the steps he takes, closing the space between them in long strides

Thank you for the amazing fill, author!anon. The flashbacks were absolutely heartbreaking yet bittersweet and the ending was a bit chilling. I loved every moment of it!

Oh. Jesus. Sorry, but that terribly broke my heart because it's every bit I imagined the relationship that Russia had with the Romanovs.
And that last bit of the Cold War pairing just had me wanting to scream and cry and squeal at the same time with the tension and the swirl of sadness and emotion.

Perfectly done, right down to the very last flashback (and use of flashbacks can go very, very wrong in the wrong hands). I loved how sparse but poignant the glimpses we get into Russia's relationship with the children are, and... the execution. Yeah. :/
