This anon humbly apologizes for taking liberties with the prompt, but it hit closer to home than I thought possible, so I had to write it this way. ): Excuse the fail.
“Hey Young Soo,” Alfred said in confusion. “If you’re Korean, why aren’t you wearing a kimono instead of that thing?”
Young Soo felt the smile on his face tighten with sudden strain as he looked down at that thing in question. Namely, the hanbok he was wearing. It was the same blue of Alfred’s eyes, the color of the sky on a summer day, with silver stitching in the fine silk. It was the best outfit he had left. it's also quite surprising to see fills from the older parts, and that are as beautiful as this one is.
Serious Young Soo, thinking about his past, about differences and war and how he still managed to survive, and america (oh, america. read the atmosphere, please), and his reaction...

Like the OP, I was rather surprised at your take on this prompt, but nonetheless, it was wonderful.
Being Asian American myself, I adore the way you portrayed Alfred as ignorant, but not malicious.
I have to say, my favorite part was Young Soo thinking about how those clothes are his best left and the historical ramifications behind that. It just about broke my heart- and that means a lot for me: I almost never get emotional.

Bonus: for whatever reason, he actually does turn up in a kimono.
Further bonus: cameo from lederhosen'd!Belgium.
