America did not do subtle. America was a land of dramatic landscaping: towering mountains; endless, rolling grasslands; Grand Canyons; that weird southern desert of his that looked like a cartoon really....America had grown up in such surroundings that had done nothing to teach him about subtlety. His people were not subtle either. They sought the heights and the lights, the bright and the brilliant and the blazing. They built cities that trumpeted their presence, reached for the sky and scraped it with glass towers and winged airships. His people were not harmonious, not delicate, defying nature, their rulers, and even each other in frantic chase of rose-colored dreams - racing each other in the pursuit of happiness. And for both good and ill - in spite of it, perhaps - America loved them, _was_ them

Oh god, I was so out of it when I typed up the last part.

Alfred was pacing the porch of Matthew's house, a bottle of Molson's (which was _not_ better than Budweiser's, it _wasn't_) clenched in one hand. He took another swig of the ice-cold drink, glared out into the cool twilight dimness, trying to find something to focus his mind on. The sky, trees, snow. The trees. Softwood lumber. He needed to hit Matt up for another talk about that...
Arthur smiling at his brother. Arthur had used to smile at him like that! Arthur had used to LIKE him.... He shook his head as if to clear it. He was the United States of America, not some small sniveling Colony. He didn't need Arthur to like him! He took another swig and glared at Matt's stupid trees and blinked because the wind stinging his eyes was making him tear up

Matthew stood at exactly the right spot (the rightmost bay window in the hallway outside his bedroom) to have an excellent view of the proceedings. When Arthur hugged Alfred, he gave a soft cheer. There was no way even his thick-headed brother could misconstrue that as anything but an _extremely_ affectionate gesture

Aww, this was so much fun to read!! My favorite line was from part 6: "He smiled up at Alfred and prepared to reclaim America for England." Great job! 8D
