China/Korea, but it doesn't matter who tops. Finding solace in each other after/during WWII.

The kink is they're both badly injured and bandaged.

Not much topping here (or smut at all), hope this isn't too off course. Also features my "Korea as twin brothers" schtick.

One night, as Yao lies on a pallet in the cramped shack that for the past few days he’s shared with a nervous but hospitable village family, he hears Im Yong Jun speaking to the Red Army soldier outside. Yao alternates between the Nationalists and Communists and wonders who his human boss will be after the war, if he’ll be in any position to have one. Yong Jun visits him from time to time, more often than his twin brother, to contact the provisional government and help coordinate the guerrilla resistance. He knows it’s Yong Jun because of the low measured way he speaks and because, more obviously, Yao hears him saying “This is my brother, Im Yong Su. Treat him as you would me.”

So, clearly, it’s Yong Su who’s carried in and laid out beside him on another pallet, next to Yao, and it’s Yong Jun who crouches over them and says “Su, keep breathing,” who then looks to Yao and says, slowly, “Gege,” which is Yao’s way ( ... )

“Quiet,” Yao tells him. “Quiet, little brother, he’s not here. Hush.” He doesn’t think any of it gets through. When he uses one hand to lift Yong Su’s chin, the uncovered eye stares back without seeing, the mind behind it still trapped in Kiku’s house. Shaking him, as hard as he dares, only seems to aggravate it. Finally, bordering on desperate, he scrounges up some sentences in the other’s language, the one that in this moment Yong Su is swearing never to use again. “Hush, hush, it’s your big brother, Yong Su, your big brother’s here.”

Yong Su stills, awareness beginning to trickle back. “Gege,” he murmurs back, and then he throws his arms around Yao in return and wails “Gege“Hush,” Yao whispers, his hand skating over the layer of bandages coating Yong Su’s back, nearly a match for his own. “It’s all right. Hush. Hush ( ... )

“So you’re back,” he whispers when he’s stopped shivering. “Did you meet with Ivan?”

“Yes,” Yong Jun whispers back. “He says once he’s done with...”

“May it be done with soon,” says Yao, and they all slide down to lie on the floor, with a brief shuffle to sort out the blankets. Yao lies on his side, pressed between their frail bodies. “My little brothers,” he says, and then says, in return, “Dongsa... dongsaeng.” In these circumstances he is less embarrassed to ask “Is that the right word?”

“Yes,” says Yong Su. “That’s right. That’s right.”

“Our big brother,” says Yong Jun. “Our eldest.”

“It’s going to be all right,” says Yong Su. “It has to be all right.”

They fall back asleep like this, curled together, and all right, all right follows Yao into his next set of dreams.

Oh damn. Not the OP, but am very impressed and utterly speechless with awe. This worked well, better than well, if not just plain better without smut. The history, their side of it, really shined through here. Thank you for writing this anon!

You're welcome, and thank you back! Happy it works for you. I was reading up on that part of history in preparation for a different fill, and when I saw this request I knew I wanted to try my hand at it as well.

I have such a soft spot for the East Asia brothers. Are you the same anon who wrote: http://hetalia-kink.livejournal.com/632.html?thread=382072#t382072 ?

If so, I LOVE your mix of history and characterization. If not, I still LOVE your mix of history and characterization. I agree with the above commenter that this works extremely well without smut, that image of the three of them curled together on the floor is really sad and beautiful.

The title is lovely too ♥

To be honest, I didn't remember the thread numbers and was expecting the link to be to the Taiwan/Korea fill with all the side notes (though perhaps for that one you wouldn't really have needed to ask). To answer your question: Why, yes, yes I am (though I changed my mind on how to romanize Korea's human name between fics ( ... )

... so I'm also glad I managed to capture what I envisioned when I saw the request, to some degree.

There. Done (I think). And thanks again.

Ah. Well. This anon is a bit new to LJ and the drama's found within, though I am aware for FandomSecrets (how could I not be after that HKM/F!S fill!) I don't pay any attention to it, or really know how it works. I only mentioned the Nanking fic because it's honestly one of my favourites. I didn't realize it was notorious (or whatever) now. Haha, ignorance is bliss?

I am glad that people more knowledgeable about such things stood up for you though and that you weren't scared away from writing more for this fandom. It's the wonderful serious fics like yours that keep me hanging around this place as it becomes inundated with more and more orgy/shota/unpleasant requests that make me cringe.

So. Happy New Year! I look forward (*fingers crossed*) to more beautifully characterized, historically sensitive Hetalia fics from you in 2009. Discovering writers like you has been the most rewarding part of the HKM for me. ♥

Psst! Did you write this one: http:// ( ... )

A happy new year to you too!

Heh, by the time I found out there was any kind of drama over it most of the arguments were already finished and I was busy on another fill, so I guess it was easier to shrug off after the fact.

By its nature a kink meme's probably's going to turn up something personally cringey at one time or another - one anon's kink (for a given value of kink, especially with this meme) is another anon's squick, after all. Glad this satisfies your particular kink, and I do plan on writing more like it.

Oh! I'm afraid I didn't write that one (I only got into the fandom in November), but I'm flattered that you ask, especially as I found that fic early on in my browsing the meme and it really struck me.

And I've semi-outed myself since my last comment, so here, have a list: http://tinyurl.com/6ufbzx
