The anon is sorry for the delay, lack of actual sex and the overall sappiness...

When Alfred was Just Alfred and not ‘America’, he didn’t really have anything remotely close to a birthday. And neither did Arthur, which was just fine back then. But when things changed and Alfred became’ America’ it was no longer ok. Because, in his eyes, it was not fair for him to have something Arthur did not.

Despite the war, in spite of walking out on Arthur... Despite all the tings he took away from the Brit leaving.

Hence, Alfred thought, Arthur must have his birthday somewhere around the year; he just didn’t like to brag about it - which seemed a common trait for all the Islanders. But to the man’s great displeasure, there was not a soul that could tell him for sure. Even the Frenchman - Arthur’s mortal enemy and reluctantly trusted companion for as long as Alfred could remember - had no idea when, or even how long ago Arthur was born. He had just been there all the time, which Alfred, ever the just one, thought extremely unfair. And holding ( ... )

(sorry for the formatting of the last part... Forgot about spacing)

Alfred stops in front of the fireplace and shakes his head violently. No, that’s not the way a hero like him should think! He came here on a purpose and does certainly not intend to back away and flee, like some... Italians! Right. Besides, he felt this one day, a new celebration invented by his people, has probably been his best idea so far.

He glances at the pictures on the mantelpiece and stops in wonder.

They’re all here - Arthur’s colonies, his step-children; the ones he wished to raise according to his own wishes, strongly believing he’d do it right this time and not fail.

Like he did with a child that was not-yet-America.

‘Are five kids better than one, Iggy..?’, he quotes in his mind a song, the lyrics of which he can barely remember, as he takes one of the pictures in his hands ( ... )

“You see”, he begins a new, “It’s always about mothers, right? Delivering babies, raising them, shopping, cooking, cleaning, all that stuff, right? Right. And we thought, don’t get me wrong Iggy, we as the Americans, I’m not turning into a megalomaniac, like... Ok, scratch that and back to the point”, he leans forward, afraid his voice becomes to quiet to hear and how much he’d hate to repeat the whole thing, “We thought that... Why not? Let’s have a day to thank our fathers as well, since... Where would we be without them, and... You see... You...”

You are more important to me than Washington, Lincoln, hell, the whole friggin’ Mt. Rushmore! Is what he’d like to say but his voice betrays him and it ends up as a defeated mumble. The show’s over and all Alfred can do is stare dumbly at the floor, too paralyzed to clear his throat even. Waiting ( ... )

For the sake of celebrating Alfred stays for the day, which somehow extends to a sleep-over, so that the next morning finds them both in Arthur’s bedroom, bodies tangled between the sheets - which quite surprises Alfred, since the time he discarded his bed to run over to the Brit’s on a nightly basis was ages ago; more so even, when he finds out that despite all this time they still fit together neatly ( ... )
