Russia/Lithuania

Russia makes good on the threat to send Liet to Siberia. Bonus if the fic takes place after the fact and Lithuania is grateful for being allowed to return to Russia's house.

Break my heart, anon.

This fic takes place somewhere after 1939, either right before Lithuania was taken back into the now Soviet Russia, or even after WWII where (surprise) it happened again. Both of those times, a great many Lithuanians were sent to Siberia, specifically what this meant was that they were sent to the Gulags--labor camps. I'm sorry if this isn't exactly what OP had in mind, but I got carried away!

ColdCold was a word, a matter of sound and letters. It came to mind when someone mentioned winter, or snow. Cold, to Lithuania, was putting on a coat and scarf. Watching his breath cloud and billow outwards as if a puff of smoke from a chimney. And maybe, if he stayed out too long, a numb nose and toes, which would tingle as they warmed when he sat by the fire ( ... )

Oh, how foolish. How terribly, utterly foolish! This suffering could have all been avoided. But the cries of his beloved people were just too loud for him to ignore at the time. They loved him, believed in him. All along he had been told that he was nothing but a fragment of a shadow of Russia-and he had believed it for over a hundred years. He had gotten just a taste of freedom, of remembering who he was and what he could be. Considering his lifetime, it was a short and sweet dream ( ... )

Anon, you have just left the OP absolutely flabbergasted. This was heartbreaking- just cutting and painful, and very, very good. It's everything I'd hoped for; you even took it from the period in history I didn't request for fear of scaring potential authors off.

And the ending- the ending just ripped my heart out of my chest and stomped it on the floor. Amazing stuff, anon. So much love for you.

Oh God, oh God. Let me get my baring first before I can speak...

Anon!Writer you are AMAZING!!! I've read so many Lithuania stories (you can tell he's a favorite of mine) but none that touched me on a national level so much, none that made the plight of the nation so clear that it broke my heart into a thousand pieces. I love Toris, and it hurts in the back of my mind to think that all this really happened. That his people did suffer and die like that. And that quote from the poem... I didn't even know about it and had to google it to find out. What a perfect line to add to a perfect story. How did you know?

Ok, now I have to go out and find a Lithuanian to hug. I'm from Canada but all these stories are making me really patriotic towards a nation I didn't know existed until 1990 and hadn't cared about at all before Hetalia.

I am so so glad you liked it. I got more political with this than I originally meant to, but I started thinking of being a nation, and watching your people, your children, suffering, and you can't do a thing. Also, Adam Mickiewicz is amazing. There's argument about his origins, but his writing was aimed at 'Lithuania's historic beauty and the dream of reliving it. I'd had excerpts of his writing forever, I just had to use it.

I know what you mean about patriotic about a nation you didn't know, that's how I am! Even to the point of studying current events in lots of Europe--specially the Balts. It's crazy to love a country you've never been to, but I feel like I do! This makes the fifth request with Toris I've filled, and all of them included some kind of suffering. I need a fluffy request D8
