But Ivan’s hands are bigger, stronger, more sure, and his attempts at the smallest rebellion are subdued

He cannot offend - that is what his leader has told him, so he will not scream or rage, because their relations are already strained as it stands; what between Khrushchev and the nuclear program and American. So he tells himself that he does not - he does not - enjoy the moment, feeling wanted and maybe even a little adored, and it for diplomacy’s sake that he doesn’t complain

I absolutely adored this! So much that I'm saving it onto my computer, which I rarely do these days. It has somewhat of a dream-feel to it, scented with flowers, sunshine, tea, warmth, grass, fresh air, paper... All the pretty things of childhood.
