Tides [Part 1/?]

It was a long shot. The last time Poland had come to this place had been almost exactly two centuries ago, and he thought it had probably been even longer since Lithuania had visited it. When was it that they had stopped coming here together? Was it after their separation? Or before? It might have been either. There were some things he couldn't blame entirely on Russia or Austria or the Germanic siblings or anyone else, as much as that stung.

This spot - their spot, in the past, if no longer - had been a coincidence, but an oddly fitting one: it was almost perfectly situated on their border at the time. Poland had been adventuring when he found it, a sturdy old oak with a single, rough swing dangling from one of its branches. The problem had been that there was already another boy there. He knew the boy, Lithuania, of course - they'd seen each other often enough, being neighbors and fellow nations - but never had it occurred to him that the academic and serious-faced boy indulged in playful things like climbing trees or, as he saw

”She totally doesn't want to marry him at all!” sighed Poland, kicking moodily at the dirt beneath his swing.

Lithuania glanced over with a curious expression. “She told you that?”

“Yeah! Well, I mean, you know. She, like, wrote it in her journal and stuff.” There was a little guilt in Poland's voice, and his dirt-kicking became more subdued. “She said I could read it, though!”

“So why doesn't she want to?” Lithuania tactfully sidestepped his friend's indiscretion.

“Ugh, why would she? He's, like, old and gross, and blegh! You've seen him. He's your king or whatever.” Poland wrinkled his nose

OP!Anon loves you right now. The last paragraph... Oh god, my heart.

The flashback!interactions in this are really great, though... Poland's complaints about the state of Lithuania's "king-boss" are wonderfully fitting, and Liet's sage resign over but tiny attempts to correct the boy are both accurate for the character and amusing. I love your use of words, too~

Thank you for the very nice comment! <3 Anon is happy to have pleased you, having been worried there weren't enough mentions of them being on the swings, or enough deep-ness of conversation, or...something. XD Anon is also really sorry, but the focus seems to have, ah, shifted to something else entirely, orz. (It's all because anon spent an hour comparing maps from the 1300s to ones from today, which became depressing very quickly and also sort of ran away with the theme of the story, lolwat. >.>)

"[2/?]" means anon was both veeeery tired and didn't want to write incoherent crack, and also wasn't sure if the OP liked it/wanted more.

This comment means more parts to come...? Probably tonight, pending writer!anon being kidnapped for New Year's celebrations. XD

Now now, I only wrote what was deserved, Anon~♥ And don't worry a bit about not having enough of that stuff-- the swings were included and I'm a sucker for PolandxLiet anyhow, so that's what matters.

This not!OP anon is chiming in to say that this really is very well-written and heartbreaking. I love the two of them together, and the flashbacks really just killed me. I hope that you continue with this- and that Liet might have had the same idea to go back to the river, as well. ;_;

I don't know if you're planning on continuing this, but even if not, I wanted to tell you what you wrote was all kinds of sweet and sad and broke my heart by the mere fact of being yesterday. You captured Poland and and his immaturity so perfectly here.
