meh here goes nothing *rolls up sleeves*They stride into the room in a solemn line like soldiers marching to their death, faces blank canvases hiding half-empty emotions. Ivan smiles at them from his chair as they form single file, a mosaic of different races that form his shield from the western world - his iron curtain. They gave up so much for him, to be like him. Abandoned the comforts they once knew for lives in red factories and gold fields, abandoned the God of their people and abandoned their cultures for the sake of progress

Oh wow.

I wasn't sure at first of how I felt about your answer, but after meditating a bit, I think I like it a lot. Because it's awesome, even if that's not how I ideologically feel (and I cringed when I read "starved", oh, I did)... its sheer quality made me love it. The chilling imagery. The descriptions. Their movements, reminding me of black and white propaganda films.

My congrats, anon. I'm taking my hat off for you.

might i say that this isn't how i feel ideologically either [or at least not entirely] but as a history student who studied the cold war i've been taught to look at both sides. For the purpose of this writting i chose one point of view since to represent two would diminish the impact.

That aside, thank you so very much for your kind words, you quelled my fears about this peice.

I can understand the intention behind the storytelling, don't worry. Like I said, I enjoyed the fic very much: It's a comprehensive, coherent piece. As a both a history and literature lover, I know about the subjectivity of History, and that's why I talked about "feeling". The artistic impact can (and sometimes, should) outweigh ideology ^^

I feel about this exactly the same as the above Anon (creepy!); also, happy that you see both sides, author. I immediately really, really liked the portrayal of the Russia/Ukraine/Belorus relationship, though, to the point that I think I might ship it now.
