It's a bit like being married... only not [1/?] anonymous October 22 2008, 22:03:04 UTC
It was one of his earliest memories.

He had been playing at the shore of his favourite river. His pockets had been heavy with the stones that he had collected that morning. They were smooth -he’d chosen them specifically so that he could blindly reach in and grab one- and small enough to fit snugly into the palm of his hand.

The game had been a simple one: find a target in the water (non-living, of course. He didn’t like the idea of harming animals), take aim and throw. Still, it had held his interest for over half an hour and possibly might have done for longer still if the sound of footfalls behind him hadn’t startled him.
A little blonde had stood a few metres away, hands on his hips, legs set apart, and green eyes narrowed. He was probably trying to look threatening, but his features were too soft; his scowl looked more like a childish pout. His fisted hands were tiny, and he was several centimetres shorter indicating that he was either about the same age, or slightly younger. In all, he had been anything but scary ( ... )

As they got older, their fights calmed down. They still sometimes fell into the same old arguments, but at least they actually talked to one another sometimes. They didn’t particularly get on, but both of them figured that that was something that would probably never change and, as neighbours, it was in both of their interests to keep the fighting down to a minimum. That didn’t, of course, mean that they stopped having border disputes- it just became a part of everyday life. They could hardly help having such a huge clash of personalities, after all ( ... )

He sat quietly and regarded Poland, really regarded him for the first time. He was certainly annoying, and he got ridiculously shy in front of anybody but Lithuania. He was also too pushy at times, and always wanted his own way. He was stupidly brave; Lithuania had seen it for himself. He had never seen anybody as courageous as Poland in all of his life. He was also a fantastic rider; the way in which he could handle a horse was something that had always awed Lithuania. His skill in tending to his rye fields was admirable; his people were hard working and noble. He was wilful and determined, spirited and honest…

Lithuania caught himself, blushing when he realised that he’d been staring as his thoughts wandered. He’d always been convinced that he didn’t like Poland, so it left him rather stunned when he realised that maybe he actually admired him. He knew for sure that the idea of a personal union wasn’t something that was unthinkable ( ... )

Lithuania blinked, deeply surprised. A pet name. No one had ever given him a pet name in his life. Pet names were associated with fondness and friendship, with feelings of genuine regard. Were he and Poland anywhere near that stage? It just seemed a bit strange, and sudden and-

“Hey,” Poland’s voice broke through his thoughts and his vision snapped back into focus. The blonde was blushing, wearing a fake smile that didn’t reach his eyes. Lithuania didn’t like the way in which his eyes had dulled. It didn’t suit him one bit. “I’m sorry,” the Pole continued. “Sometimes I totally let my mouth run away with me, I didn’t mean to cause you any offence, Lithuania, or to put you on the spot. Please forget what I said, it was silly.”

“It’s fine.”

“Huh?” Poland responded, unable to catch Lithuania’s quite voice.

‘Liet’ was so over- familiar and suggested far too much friendliness. And yet… Lithuania had known Poland for most of his living memory. Was there anyone in the world that he was more familiar with? “I said it’s fine,” the brunette ( ... )

Lithuania’s frowned in confusion. “Uh, I already am, Poland.”

“No, I mean…” Poland had gone shy, which, around Lithuania could only mean that there was something important that he wanted to say. The brunette grew slightly worried, but otherwise didn’t interrupt, opting instead to place a comforting hand against Poland’s shoulder. “I mean, like, for good. I mean, why don’t you, like, move in… with me ( ... )

/glees absolutely EVERYWHERE

This. YES. JFJFSJSALSjjflks it is not Hetalia fic without some random historical insertion. I love how you developed their relationship alongside the historical treaties and the progression of the alliance between the two countries. You also have a way with words, and it was just.... eeeee so adorable. ♥ I'm pretty lukewarm on Feliks/Liet, but I think you made me a little warmer. |DDDD /CHEESES
