This is set in 1556, guys, so there’s a predating character for Rome (Loris Voltolini), and a couple of general OCs (Portugal: Cristiano Medeiros; India: Kshitija Vemulakonda). Also-. No, no wait, that’s it I think. Yeah, no rape in this fic; THAT’S A FIRST FOR ME.

The first time Wang Yao went further west than his own borders, he stopped only briefly at the termination of the Silk Road within Sadiq Annan’s borders. The place of termination was a lively, animated place, filled with sailors and traders and merchants and men who smelled as if they hadn’t been washed for weeks. He lingered with his entourage-they had insisted upon accompanying him, especially the Emperor's chief advisers, who Yao feared were about to go into vapors from the cluttered confines of the ship from Antioch to Rome-for three days. Rome was little better than Antioch, and the entourage complained mightily.

Yao was stunned. The Westerners that had come to them thus far had been tradesmen and Jesuits. Rome was filled with pilgrims and ladies in fine ( ... )

The early afternoon was hot, and Yao sat fanning himself, trying to divine the aim of the sport he was watching with bulls and men in elaborate costumes, the crowd shouting Ole! at certain occasions. Yao wished his Spanish was better, but knew there was nothing for it.

The men in the arena finished of their bulls, and the crowd cheered. Yao smiled indulgently at the whole thing, and thought how much Kshitija Vemulakonda would despise this sport; Yao thought it all very charming and quaint and Western, and applauded as well ( ... )

“What are you doing here?” he asked, moving just a bit away from Yao. Yao kept his hands on Antonio’s chest, tracing the designs on the silk of his cravat.

“We’re staying over in Pamplona a few days on our way to see Cristiano and his King.”

Antonio sneered a little, and leaned his arm on the wall above Yao’s head, towering over Yao and looked down on him gently. Yao allowed the younger man his peace in the dominating action. “Medeiros? What do you want with him?”

“We have a trade agreement.”

Antonio smiled then, tracing a finger down Yao’s cheek and neck gently. “Acuerdo comercial? What could he be giving you that you cannot get from other, more appealing sources ( ... )
