It was only a matter of time.
Arthur Kirkland was sitting amid a large pile of important legal documents, settled comfortably in his large, velvet armchair, holding a porcelain cup of tea to his lips. His deep, emerald colored eyes flickered over the mess in his office, towards the updated reports laying on his lap. He attempted to peruse them once again, but found that he was much too distracted to actually absorb any of the information. So, he released a sigh and leaned against the back of the armchair, choosing instead to muse over the current state of affairs.
There was a War going on. Even the village idiot knew that much. Two factions of the world pitted against one another, each one fighting for dominance. Violence, bloodshed...such was the language of any war.
Perhaps the most frightening aspect of all of this, however, remained the fact that the fate of the institution of democracy laid solely on his frail soldiers. (Damn that pansy Francis! He just ( ... )

"Aww, is that any way to greet me, Iggy? After I came all this way just to see you?" Alfred's face was wearing that ridiculously childish grin as he sauntered into the office, leaning casually against a bookshelf.
"That's not the point, you idiot," Arthur said defiantly, using an index finger to point at Alfred for dramatic effect.
"Look at you. You're in shambles. You're a bloody mess. Quite literally, might I add. You were just attacked by Kiku...a surprise attack, may I add...and you're running around like this!? I should've expected that sort of irresponsibility from you."
"You're one to talk," Al responded, pointedly taking in Arthur's weather-beaten appearance.
"I have an excuse! I have been fighting in this wretched war single-handedly! You on the other hand seem to have a certain disregard for self-protection when it is most direly needed...you're too busy ( ... )

Arthur merely smiled slyly at him, borrowing one of Al's old phrases of approval: "You got it...pardner." Without pausing to consider, he allowed one of his hands to curl around Alfred's waist as Al slung his own arm over the shorter man's shoulders. Turning the thought of their partnership over in his head for a while, Arthur suddenly jerked his head upwards, giving Al a puzzled expression as realization dawned ( ... )
