America/Canada - farewell to thier special relationship

While researching for a fill, Anon came across this:
In a 1972 speech in Ottawa, Nixon declared the "special relationship" between Canada and the US dead.
(Although not necessarily relevant to the the request, more about the policies that led the declaration can be found here: .)
I would like something with Matthew and Alfred on the night of this announcement, saying goodbye to the special relationship, if not to each other. Just how special the special relationship was and whether or not there is smut involved in the farewell I leave entirely in your hands, Anon. I'd like to see some regret on both sides, though.
If this has already been requested, please let me know so I can have the mods delete this.
Thank you for posting a link that works! I copied from the browser bar, but apparently Wikipedia has navigation fail with their own anchors.
And thank you for taking this on! Please take your time; I'm happy to wait however long it takes (and I know how you feel--I've made claims with the caveat it could take me until the end of the summer and felt badly about it, but from the other side of it I can say that I just want the fill, no matter how long I have to wait). ♥
