I'd say give it a try. They're good enough friends to look out for you with the whole moving out thing, so I'm sure if you just let them know that you're just the loner type that they'll give you your space.
I really can't suggest trying the whole half continent jump thing though just cause of what you said here about how much money you're bringing in. Would hate to see an entry about how you did try it, things didn't work out, and you were left in a strange land with no money or people to go to.
