Disgusted

The last couple of days, I have read some very disturbing stories about dog abuse - the dogs in particular being "Patrick" (the dog that was starved, put in a garbage bag and thrown down a garbage shute; luckily to be found and taken to a shelter and is slowly making a recovery) and "Lucky Lucy" (the pregnant dog who was tied to railway tracks and ( Read more... )

Oh god, that's horrible. I don't understand it either... how anybody can do that to any living creature, let alone a dog...who would be your best friend for life just for some bacon and a scratch behind the ear.

I'm sorry to hear about your dog. I have a 14-year-old golden retriever at home who is terminally sick, with a giant cancerous tumor in her neck/throat (she actually had one in the same spot 3-4 years ago that we had surgically removed, but it grew back). She's been having trouble breathing and swallowing and constantly has saliva falling out of her mouth because of the thing, but my mom can't bring herself to put her down yet. If it were up to me, I think I would, because I just can't imagine that she's comfortable, but its complicated and I really don't have a say. I'm really hoping she passes in her sleep.

So sorry to hear about your dog - it's an extremely hard decision to have to make - but I'm sure your mum will know when it's time.

I agree, it's disgusting that someone can treat an innocent animal like that. I used to own dogs, and I have two cats now. I can't even think about causing them harm. My step-grandmother's daughter found an abandoned puppy on the side of the road in a cardboard box, the poor thing was so ill that if she didn't take her to the vet, the puppy likely wouldn't have survived the night. Now she's perfectly fine and living with my brother, they gave the puppy to him and his boyfriend since they had to put theirs down recently, and knew she would be well taken care of. It's always hard when you have to put a loving pet to sleep, but in some cases, it really is the best thing for them. I could never watch mine suffer like that.

Yes, yes and yes - words can't describe jow I feel about cruelty to animals ... and dogs in particular.

I also know what you mean about putting an animal to sleep.

My Jaykub (icon) had to be put to sleep at 10 ... he had a shattered leg ... and although there was nothing to be done, I still feel guilty - although I now know he is gallopping forever in green fields.
