Hanna had forgone making a bow just yet; apparently the shops here sold them, and that might be better than one she could build herself with minimal tools. Might be

Kira had spent most of her break doing the typical holiday business of stuffing her face and sitting around watching TV, so she was almost glad to be back in Fandom and getting back to her routine - as much as "run through the preserve as fast as she could for as long as she could" was a routine. When she saw she wasn't alone, she skidded to a stop and caught her breath. "Hi," she said brightly. "Enjoying the creepy scenery?"
Hanna peered around the statue and smiled, happy to see someone else. "I have never seen angels like these before," she confided. "They look as if they are about to destroy someone. Or smite them."
They really did. Rarrrrrrr!
"The forest is wonderful. But strange. Is there magic here?"
"Yesterday morning, yes." She slid down the side of one of the angels, then stood up, adjusting her new jacket. "I am Hanna. I am a -- sophomore?" The German accent always had an up-tick when she was uncertain. "I did not expect there to be real magic. Anywhere."
"Yeah, it was definitely a surprise when I got here. I'm Kira," she said, "and it's nice to meet you. The magic stuff does make this place a lot more fun, and no one really gets judged based on what they can or can't do."
Another degree of relief, hearing that, and Hanna patted the angel as she moved away from it. "The magic is not expected? Or... I have not been to formal schools very much before." It would be so much easier if she didn't have to lie while she was here, however long that was. "Where are you from, Kira?"
"I'm from New York. In the United States," she added, in case that was needed information. "Where I'm from is mostly like this, except all the people at my old school weren't quite as pretty as the people here." She laughed softly. "I didn't know how strange this place would be. I think that's how it was for most people. Where are you from?"
To lie, or tell the truth? ... what had been the purpose of the original lie? To blend in. To seem normal. But here, it seemed, normal was more -- fluid. So, a compromise, of truth and lie.
"Finland," Hanna said, tugging on her sleeves, "and Germany. Liepzig." She smiled shyly. "I should like to visit New York some day. I have read about it. One of the largest cities in America... do you miss it?"
"I miss my friends Occasionally I miss my parents," Kira said with a smirk. "But I've made friends here too and it's really awesome being here. New York has a lot more to do, but I kind of like the quiet. Europe seems very far away. This has got to be a big adjustment even without the weird stuff."
"Yes," Hanna said, sounding more subdued at the mention of parents. She swallowed. "It's very different..." She looked around, her expression lightening a little. "But this is familiar. The outside. Outdoors?" She checked with Kira. "Nature. What do you do here -- for fun?"
"Honestly, I'm going to sound weird I'm sure, but I like hanging out in the preserve, and running around," Kira admitted. "Hanging out in the dorms is good too - there's usually people watching movies or trying to cook something in the common rooms, so if I feel like being around people, I can. Or I hide in my room and play around on the internet, because I'm boring."
Hanna laughed a little, sticking her hands in her pockets. "Why is that boring?" She cocked her head. "There's so much you can find on the internet. Stories and information..."
She'd liked what she'd seen of it, even if it was only for a couple hours.
"Oh man, sometimes I'll start looking at a site and like, hours have gone by and I didn't even notice," Kira said, laughing. She shuffled her weight for a moment, debating whether or not running with Hanna would be a good idea, and then decided to just go for it and see what happened. "All right, if you want to. You're not worn out, are you?" she asked, gently teasing.
