Hanna had been up half the night listening to her new album. She'd kept the music low so it wouldn't disturb anyone, but she was desperately glad to have found a pair of headphones and a conversion jack to plug into her record player, so she could have it as loud as she wanted without disturbing anyone ( Read more... )

"What are you listening to?" Carmilla asked idly, stretched out on her bed, reading the letter from Elle for the umpteenth time. Of course, Hanna couldn't hear her with the headphones on, so she lobbed a pillow across the room to get her attention.

Hanna startled, and looked over at Carmilla, sliding off the headphones to blink at her. "I'm sorry, what?" And tossed the pillow back, smiling in amusement.

"I said what are you listening to?" Carmilla said, turning on to her side. The letter rested on the bed beside her, waiting to be read again.

Hanna paused, the decided this was too nice not to be shared. She unplugged the headphones, and held up the album cover so Carmilla could see it.

"It's a recording of my mother's band. Their jazz songs, from almost twenty years ago. I just found it a few days ago."

The impulse to mention the shop bloomed and died in an instant, but the smile never left Hanna's face. "What are your reading? Letter from home?"
