Body and Appearance
1. Describe the character's height and build. Is she heavyset, thin, short, rangy?
Extremely thin. So in, in fact, that people often tell her she needs to eat more. She had small breasts, wide hips, a tiny waist, and for some reason the Teen Titans artists gave her DAT ASS. Otherwise, she has no fat on her. It's all muscle, skin and bones. Girl has abs. As for height, she's tiny. Probably only an inch above five feet, which is why she almost never wears flat shoes.
2. How old is she?
In Siren's Port right now, Jinx is approximately 19 years old. I figure, since she barely knows anything about herself, she just decided at an early age that her birthday was on Halloween. It sounded appropriate, and she guessed she was around 18 in the Port when she arrived. So next Halloween, she'll be turning 10.
3. Describe her posture. Does she carry herself well or does she slouch?
Very well. Though she's not really Miss Manners, she does have great posture. I don't think she knows how to slouch. She carries herself like a dancer. Gracefully, steps lightly, and she's very fast. Though when she's laying down or sitting? She's like a damn cat. Sprawls out, curls into balls, flops over herself in positions that cannot be comfy. She's weird and flexy.
4. How is her health? Is she fit or out of shape? Any illnesses or conditions? Any physical disabilities?
Jinx is very, very in shape. Girl can sprint a mile and only be out of breath for a few seconds. Elevators are death traps, so she always takes the stairs and she lives on the eighth floor of an apartment building. She's a fighter, a gymnast, and a dancer. Being in shape is very important to her. However, she's too skinny and often forgets to eat. When she's upset, she doesn't sleep or eat at all, and it takes a toll on her body. Old scars and wounds have dulled certain sensitivities, her organs are probably going to start giving up around thirty, and a lot of her joints are getting shot. They swell and hurt with the changing weather. Her lifestyle definitely takes a toll.
5. How does she move? Is she clumsy, graceful, tense, fluid?
Gracefully. Very graceful. When she walks, her hips swing from side to side. When she falls, she gets up quickly. There are parts of her that can get very tense, but usually she moves fluidly. She's quick and has a hard time sitting still. She saunters, stalks, and generally moves like a very confident cat.
6. How attractive is this character physically? How does she perceive herself in the mirror?
I'd describe her better as exotic rather than pretty. She does have nice features, if you can get over her odd appearance. Her eyes are beautiful, she has a pretty smile when she actually smiles instead of just grinning evilly, her nose is small and cute, and she has a decent body. When Jinx looks in the mirror, she sees someone absolutely messed up. Someone human boys would never find attractive. Being a metahuman sort of gives you a complex. Certain aspects of her can be off-putting. Her teeth are sharp, she has claws, and a bad habit of looking at people more like prey. So it's really in the eye of the beholder.
7. Describe her complexion. Dark, light, clear, scarred?
Very scarred, and very gray. Cool gray, perhaps a slate. Brings a whole new definition to the word "pale." Aside from all the scars from fights and burns, she has a nice complexion. No blemishes, no freckles, but it's not normal.
8. Describe her hair: color, texture, style.
Some people say her hair is pink or more of a purple, but Jinx likes to describe it as fuchsia. It's rather coarse and rarely ever does what she wants it to. Bad luck means bad hair days for her entire life. As for style, she used to wear it up in horns to give herself a more sinister, larger appearance. Lately, it's gotten longer, so she's been throwing it back in buns or up in pigtails more often. She only wears it down for special occasions because it takes an hour to get it to lay flat.
9. What color are her eyes?
Like her hair, fuchsia. They're very odd, though. First off, they're about twice the size of any normal girl's eyes. The iris is fuchsia and her pupils are slit like a cat. These are perhaps the biggest giveaway about her slightly feline mutation. They reflect light in the darkness and she has nearly perfect night vision. They're naturally lined with a touch of black, and they're not unpretty. Just very striking.
10. Does the character have any other noteworthy features?
Many. Her eyes, for one. Her skin color. Her hair, yes, it's natural. Her teeth are sharper than the average human's, but not so sharp that they look too weird. Also, claws. Yeah. She has sharp claws on the tip of every gray finger. You don't want to imagine how much she fights with her "toenails." There's a lot of filing involved and sandles are a big no-no.
11. What are her chief tension centers?
Chronic headaches, joint pain mostly in her legs and wrist, she has to pop and stretch her back a lot, and her jaw is very tight from all that clenching and teeth grinding.
12. What is the character's wardrobe like? Casual, dressy, utilitarian? Bright colors, pastels, neutrals? Is it varied, or does she have six of the same suit?
Black. A whole lot of black. Some violet. Jinx loves fashion. So much money goes toward gold, jewels, Prada, and Gucci. Shoes are her favorite, and she is almost never seen in flat ones. Her wardrobe is rather witchy. Torn hems, flowing sleeves, fishnets. When she's dressing up, she goes all out with high, high heels and tight black dresses. Otherwise, she's practical. Leggings, things that are easy to fight in, and materials that aren't flammable. The girl couldn't live without boutiques, because designer clothes are her best friend.
13. Do her clothes fit well? Does she seem comfortable in them?
Yes, actually. She does pretty well when it comes to fashion. Sometimes she wears shoes that kill her feet, or is dumb and doesn't wear jackets when she goes out clubbing in the middle of Canadian winter. She's from California. She'll never understand below freezing. But she has the uncanny ability to look comfortable in ridiculous outfits.
14. Does she dress the same on the job as she does in her free time? If not, what are the differences?
Not all the time. Jinx works at Felton theater as a dancer, so she wears very loose clothing, and some revealing things, to dance in when she's not in costume. On a casual day, she wears things that she can fight in if need be. When going out, she dresses to the nines. Everything has a somewhat gothic motif, though.
15. You knew it was coming: Boxers, briefs or commando?
Spankies. Like a cheerleader. She only deviates when they'll show through her outfit or when she's expecting a good night.
Speech
1. What does this character's voice sound like? High-pitched, deep, hoarse?
Like Amy. From Futurama. So, high pitched with a cadence that sounds particularly off. Yeah, she can be creepy. It goes into lower tones mostly when she's talking about violence. But when she's screaming? Definitely high pitched.
2. How does she normally speak? Loud, soft, fast, evenly? Does she talk easily, or does she hesitate?
Jinx runs her mouth. A whole lot. More than she probably could, and she usually talks rather fast. Her voice only gets loud when she's angry, otherwise it's a normal level of creep. She's also the queen of inflections. I have to italicize so much when writing with her.
3. Does the character have a distinct accent or dialect? Any individual quirks of pronunciation? Any, like, you know, verbal tics?
Dramatic pauses. She purrs, growls, and hisses. She pronounces things rather properly and makes sure to articulate every syllable. When she's speaking other languages, she talks like a valley girl and punctuates with "like" and "uh." She can do impersonations, but she can't do accents worth anything when she's not mimicking someone.
4. What language/s does she speak, and with how much fluency?
Jinx knows enough Latin to piece together a few things, and she can tell world leaders to surrender in fifteen different languages. She's most fluent in English, can do a little bit of French and Spanish, and speaks hick rather well thanks to Billy Numerous.
5. Does she switch languages or dialects in certain situations?
Nope. She tries to sound more proper and commanding when she's trying to impress, but that's about it.
6. Is she a good impromptu speaker, or does she have to think about her words?
Jinx is quick on her feet in normal conversation. She's witty and rarely stops to think. However, when talking about emotions or other subjects she's not completely comfortable with, she pauses, attempts to choose her words wisely, then ends up talking fast and trying not to put her foot in her mouth anyway. She's a very "heart on her sleeve" kind of girl at times.
7. Is she eloquent or inarticulate? Under what circumstances might this change?
Very eloquent and articulate. Her vocabulary is pretty strange for girls her age. She uses big words and chooses interesting ways to say simple things. When she's very upset or emotional, her eloquence dies and she starts talking like a teenager. She was raised in a very unique environment and it shows.
Mental and Emotional
1. How intelligent is this character? Is she book-smart or street-smart?
Extremely intelligent, but not as book smart as you might think. She's versed in certain topics and those topics alone. Stick her in a kitchen, and she's dumber than a box of rocks. Put her in a position of polical power, and she'll take over the world. The girl graduated top of her class. She knows villainy, she's witty, but there are some areas she fails miserably at.
2. Does she think on her feet, or does she need time to deliberate?
On her feet, which means she sometimes makes very dumb, very emotional decisions. But she's a fantastic negotiator and makes really dumb things sound like fantastic ideas.
3. Describe the character's thought process. Is she more logical, or more intuitive? Idealistic or practical?
All of the above, actually. She picks and chooses. In fighting and doing what needs to be done, she's logical. Otherwise, she relies heavily upon intuition mixed with the things she's learned in the past. Practicality is something she doesn't do well, but she can manage. Her idealism is sour and usually involves her wardrobe.
4. What kind of education has the character had?
A very thorough pedigree of them. She attended Dark Wave Prep where she learned how to better control her abilities, studied the dark arts, and got to express her more creative side. She attended the Junior HIVE Academy for a short period of time, it being an intro to the HAEYP. The Hierarchy of International Vengeance and Extermination Academy for Extraordinary Young People. She refers to it plainly as the HIVE Academy. She graduated the top of her class, leading a highly elite team. For their graduation, they were hired by the best villain in the business, Slade. But, after failing the mission because of the Teen Titans, they were sent back to school for some reeducation. Jinx was abused and brainwashed during that time, then left the Academy before it got destroyed to take on the HIVE name and lead the HIVE Five.
5. What are her areas of expertise? What, if anything, is she interested in learning more about?
Combat and leadership. Jinx was trained her entire life to be a fighting machine and to lead elite teams. She is extremely good at what she does. Her interest more leans toward the arts, though. Painting and drawing are things she works on a lot as well as dancing. As for things she wants to learn more about? She's always saying she's working on reading more and studying actual magic instead of just her hexes. It rarely happens.
6. Is she an introvert or an extrovert?
Extrovert. This one ain't shy.
7. Describe the character's temperament. Is she even-tempered or does she have mood swings? Cheerful or melancholy?
Laid-back or driven?
MOOD SWINGS. All. The. Time. I swear, writing her involves a lot of dramatics. One minute she's happy and smiling, then the next she's screaming and beating heads into walls. Jinx is only cheerful when she has something definite to be happy about, otherwise she's a pessimist. Bad luck wears a person down. But she's driven. Very driven. Jinx gets things done. She's more persistent that Starscream sometimes. What Jinx wants, Jinx gets.
8. How does she respond to new people or situations? Is she suspicious, relaxed, timid, enthusiastic?
Jinx is always suspicious of everyone at all times, but never shows it. Everyone is a potential enemy until proven otherwise, and she deals with that by knowing she can kick anyone's ass until proven otherwise. When she meets a new person, she is immediately sarcastic. Unless they're children. She has a soft spot for kids.
9. Is she more likely to act, or to react?
Er, yes.
10. Which is her default: fight or flight?
Fight. Girl's stubborn. The only time she runs away is when she's feeling emotions she doesn't know how to deal with, and that's rare.
11. Describe the character's sense of humor. Does she appreciate jokes? Puns? Gallows humor? Bathroom humor?
Pranks?
As most villains do, she has a weakness for puns. She loves a good prank and has a dark sense of humor sometimes. Wit makes her laugh, so dry humor is more her thing. But puns. It's a must.
12. Does the character have any diagnosable mental disorders? If yes, how does she deal with them?
Diagnosable? Yes. Diagnosed? No. She probably has a whole list of mental problems such as: control issues, PTSD, attachment issues, and she may be mildly sociopathic. If anyone tries to call her crazy as an insult? She gets incredibly defensive. Otherwise, she avoids topics. She's gotten good at evasion. She bottles up things inside until she explodes. Jinx also has a tendency to snap mentally when fighting or extremely angry. Snapping usually means devolving into a creepy, violent little monster.
13. What moments in this character's life have defined her as a person?
"I'm bad luck. Good was never an option for me." Jinx's abilities define her. She believes they can only be used for destruction, so she took the path of villainy, believing there was no other way. Otherwise, most of her life experience comes from the HIVE Academy, good and bad. In Siren's Port, her defining moments have been because of her friends. She will do anything to protect the people she loves, even kill.
14. What does she fear?
Hurting everyone and everything she loves, losing everything she loves, being alone for the rest of her life, losing complete control, Brother Blood, and pie. Fucking Mother Mae-Eye.
15. What are her hopes or aspirations?
Because she's an awful brat, Jinx would probably answer "world domination." But she wants to be loved and accepted. She wants to not worry about her abilities hurting the people she cares about, and she wants people to be there for her always. Also, she wants to be a star. Jinx likes being known, and when she's not making an impact on the world in one way or another, it drives her nuts.
16. What is something she doesn't want anyone to find out about her?
Jinx needs people. She needs them badly. All she usually gives the people she cares about is insults because she can't express herself positively, and she's terrified of everyone leaving her. She also doesn't want anyone to know that she's hoped to one day be normal. Oh, she would hate it if she actually was normal, but she just doesn't want to be a freak anymore. Really, she's insecure, and she doesn't want anyone to know how unhappy she is with aspects of her life. She also never talks about the things Brother Blood put her through and the things he tried to do.
Relationships
1. Describe this character's relationship with her parents.
She had none.
2. Does the character have any siblings? What is/was their relationship like?
No, but she makes them.
3. Are there other blood relatives to whom she is close? Are there ones she can't stand?
No blood relatives. She's like a Tigger: the only one.
4. Are there other, unrelated people whom she considers part of her family? What are her relationships with them?
YEP. Back in her world, she has Mammoth and Gizmo. They're like her brothers, in a way. Gizmo is that little annoying one she beats on but would protect with her life. Mammoth is like a big puppy who just needs love and food. In Siren's, she has Trauma and Claudio. They're definitely brothers, even though she slept with one of them which made things a little awkward, but she would die for them. And she has no idea what category Gabriel falls under, but he's family, too.
5. Who is/was the character's best friend? How did they meet?
Jinx's best friend at this point is probably Trauma. They met when she broke into his apartment to sleep there because she thought no one lived there. She stayed, and a year later, they're still living together. He constantly tries to remind her that he's not good at this and she needs girl friends, but he's still her best friend. They talk about everything, even if it means him covering his ears and shouting that he doesn't want to know.
6. Does she have other close friends?
Claudio, Joe, Riku, Jubilee, and Gabriel fall under her "close friends." Back home, it's just Mammoth and Gizmo. Anyone else is a tool.
7. Does she make friends easily, or does she have trouble getting along with people?
Jinx failed friend-making 101. Ten times. People either really love her or really hate her. She's not at all sure why she even has friends, they're probably just too lazy to make her leave. So yes, she has a lot of trouble getting along with people, but people still try to get along with her.
8. Which does she consider more important: family or friends?
Her friends become her family, and they are the most important.
9. Is the character single, married, divorced, widowed? Has she been married more than once?
Mostly single, never married. Right now, she's dating Gabriel, and that's going awesomely.
10. Is she currently in a romantic relationship with someone other than a spouse?
Gabriel! Well, back in Jump, she's supposed to be dating Kid Flash, but she doesn't have a very high opinion of him. So the archangel it is, and she's totally in love with him.
11. Who was her first crush? Who is her latest?
Unknown. I figure it was probably some supervillain or rock star. As for her latest crush, she has a lot of crushes on a lot of people, but right no
12. What does she look for in a romantic partner?
Someone just as stubborn as she is. She hates pushovers, and wants someone who can dish it right back to her. She needs someone with enough emotional strength to handle her and support her when she bites off more than she can chew. She needs someone she can be weak around. But someone who tries to use, control, or dominate her would never work out. Jinx also gets bored easily, so she needs someone interesting enough to keep her entertained. If it's not a challenge, she won't bite. She's very attracted to broken things and is fascinated with baggage that matches her own. Most of all, she needs someone who can keep up with her, so she usually dates douchebags.
13. Does the character have children? Grandchildren? If yes, how does she relate to them? If no, does she want any?
No, and she doesn't want any. Jinx is terrified of her kids turning out to be just like her, with her abilities, and she's afraid of passing on abuse to them. She's convinced she would be a terrible mother and doesn't want to bring life into the world.
14. Does she have any rivals or enemies?
Yep. The Teen Titans are her arch nemesises. They always have been and they always will be, no matter what side she's on.
15. What is the character's sexual orientation? Where does she fall on the
href="
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kinsey_scale">Kinsey scale?
Straight. Very straight. Jinx likes boys. Girls are too hard to deal with and their squishy parts are stupid.
16. How does she feel about sex? How important is it to her?
Sex is really, really awesome. It's a vital part of every relationship. Jinx likes being touched and she has a hell of a lot of hormones. So without sex, she gets very on edge. Sex isn't a precious thing to her, it's fun.
17. What are her turn-ons? Turn-offs? Weird bedroom habits?
The way someone smells determines how attracted she is to them. People who smell fantastic turn her on. So does nuzzling, kissing, anything involving her neck, and she likes being pet. Ways to turn her off include retarded bedroom talk, getting emotional during sex, and she's not too happy with people who are controlling in bed. She likes bondage, but not on her. She bites, growls, and is extremely loud. She's also a cuddler and would openly deny it. As for weird bedroom habits? Well, you'll just have to find that out through experience.
Beliefs
1. Do you know your character's astrological sign? How well does she fit type?
No, but I also place her in Scorpio, and it fits her perfectly:
Determined and forceful
Emotional and intuitive
Powerful and passionate
Jealous and resentful
Compulsive and obsessive
Secretive and obstinate
2. Is this character religious, spiritual, both, or neither? How important are these elements in her life?
Jinx has a very unique system of beliefs. People can just refer to her as being Pagan and be right. She's a sorceress, therefore she believes in a lot of things a normal person wouldn't because she knows them to be real. I suppose you can say she's spiritual because she has to be. A sixth sense sort of demands things like that. But she looks at all strict religions and laughs.
3. Does this character have a personal code of morals or ethics? If so, how did that begin? What would it take to compromise
it?
Jinx's morality is pretty flawed. One thing she tries to stuck to is never killing. It happens sometimes, when she loses control, and when people hurt her friends she wants them to die, but she's not a murderer.
4. How does she regard beliefs that differ from hers? Is she tolerant, intolerant, curious, indifferent?
Intolerant. She will openly make fun of other religions, especially Christian ones, and call bullshit on them. Lately, she's been a little religiously confused because she happens to be dating an angel of the lord, but he's making her more sacreligious than anything.
5. What prejudices does she hold? Are they irrational or does she have a good reason for them?
Humans are ignorant, pigheaded, selfish, arrogant creatures. Her entire life, she's been beat down by them. Back home, they expect her to fulfill a role as either a hero or a villain. Black and white. She's not allowed to just be a normal person and she hates them for that. Normal people suck. In general. Even in Siren's Port, she has a difficult time tolerating people without some sort of supernatural ability.
Daily Life
1. What is the character's financial situation? Is she rich, poor, comfortable, in debt?
Rich because she steals everything. It's a supervillain thing. In Siren's Port, she lives a more modest life. She has a small apartment that she shares with two roommates and doesn't act like a rich snob. Her only problem is her obsession with designer clothing and expensive jewelry. So she says, "I'm just a chorus girl" while she's walking in $300 shoes and wearing a necklace that costs more than your car.
2. What is her social status? Has this changed over time, and if so, how has the change affected her?
Is teenage supervillain a social status? What about "Pop star just mainstream enough to confuse the hipsters?" Jinx was always the popular girl in school, but she's turned out to be kind of a nerdy loser. However, she still makes people think she's cool because she doesn't take anyone's shit.
3. Where does she live? House, apartment, trailer? Is her home her castle or just a place to crash? What condition is it in?
Does she share it with others?
Back home, she lived in an underground base the size of an Umbrella Corporation facility. But she still kept a small, very clean room. Home used to be a place to crash before Siren's Port. She shared it with a group of teenage boys with super powers, and it sucked. That same thing goes for the Port, but it sucks less. She, Trauma and Claudio share a decent looking, two bedroom apartment that stays relatively clean. She likes it there, and doesn't want to move anytime soon. It's a safe place.
4. Besides the basic necessities, what does she spend her money on?
Gucci, Prada, all the jewelry ever, shoes. Too many shoes for her own good. Really, she needs a 12 step program. And home decor. She loves her furniture.
5. What does she do for a living? Is she good at it? Does she enjoy it, or would she rather be doing something else?
Well, she used to be a supervillain. Promising profession. Her 401K was the world, so that's pretty good. But she gave that up in Siren's Port because there was no point to it. At all. So now, she's a dancer, and she really does enjoy it. She misses fighting a whole hell of a lot, but it's nice not to get chased by the police all the time.
6. What are her interests or hobbies? How does she spend her free time?
Painting, watching Star Wars, eating tuna out of the can, dancing to 80's music, trolling everyone.
7. What are her eating habits? Does she skip meals, eat out, drink alcohol, avoid certain foods?
Awful. Jinx skips a lot of meals. She can count the number of times she's had a home cooked meal on one hand. So she usually survives of Chinese takeout, canned tuna, overly salty popcorn, and the occasional Hot Pocket when she's feeling like clogging her arteries. She's lactose intolerant, and doesn't like sweet things. She'll eat Sour Warheads, Atomic Fireballs, some lemon candies, Black Jack gum, bakers chocolate, and black licorice. She alcohol whenever she's eating out or out dancing. Fruit isn't very high up on her list, either. Her body hates her.
