Charm ☼ 009 [text]

So Harry's gone home and James is in one of those strange, prolonged sleeps. I've even brewed a potion meant to wake someone from a magic-induced sleep, but. I suppose whatever causes it is beyond my abilities. A Happy Christmas to me ( Read more... )

I do have to say that that is one of the nicest breakdowns of the whole thing that I've seen yet. I do hope this helps them.

Thank you! I've had to explain this all at length more than once, so I thought this might be convenient to look back on. Are you well aquatinted with some of the trolls as well?

Used to be. A bit of a shame, really. I've always found their culture so fascinating.

When my brother was here before, he once tried to explain this to them in some degree. It wasn't very successful. At all. Nor anywhere near as in-depth.

Oh, I'm sorry. Did your troll friend(s) go home then? Which one(s) were you acquainted with?

It takes a certain degree of patience to explain something that seems so obvious. I'm very glad you approve.

I don't believe I caught your name, though. I'm Lily. Lily Evans.

That's how humans have wigglers?! [Oh god, Nepeta's brain is breaking.] But that sounds pawful! And really really confusing!

Oh, you must be Nepeta! It's lovely to meet you. I'm Lily.

And yes, that's how we have babies. They're not...grubs or whatever it is you lot are when you're hatched. They're just very small humans. It's really not awful. I suppose it might seem that way to someone who is from such a different background, but...it's just the way things are for us.

If you're confused I could try to clear things up for you, if you'd like?

Yes, I am! I didn't know anyone else here knew me! It's furry nice to meet you too, Lily!

So they don't even pupate at all? Like kitties just grow up to be cats? And there are no lusii?? How do humans find time to take care of little humans and do efurything else too?? And if only females can be mother grubs what do matesprits or kismesises do when there aren't any in their quadrants? Does efuryone really live in just one hive?? That can't work!! Think of all the fighting there'd be!

I've been here for quite awhile and I've gotten to know several of your friends quite well. Equius and Karkat in particular. Have you been here long?

Right. No pupating. And my species is a lot more...peaceful than yours. We definitely have our moments, but in general, we don't fight as much as you would. And we only have the one romantic relationship. Our families, for the most part, fill the rest of those roles, in a way. Except for kismesisitude. There are humans who have relationships that could be considered an equivalent, but they are by no means the majority. Also, most humans are inclined to form romantic relationships with members of the opposite sex. Those who don't are called homosexuals. They can adopt children if they like, or have a friend contribute their genetic material to create a child, but this isn't a traditional way to make a family.

People have trouble understanding that?

Well, the people I intended this post for aren't exactly people in the sense that you're thinking. They're from another planet. They're called trolls. And they reproduce in a very different way than we do. It's a lot more like...a beehive or an anthill. Maybe a hornet's nest is more apt, even.

You're a friend of Shin's, aren't you?

That makes sense then. At least your explanation was accurate and well thought out.

Yes. I'm Touma.

Thank you. I've had to explain the whole thing at length more than once, so I thought this might be useful.

It's lovely to meet you, Touma. My name is Lily. I'm not sure of what you're aware, but Shin has been living with my friends and I for the last few months. He's been seeing my good friend Sirius, who is my boyfriend's best mate.

Apologies for the antics of Touma and Shin earlier. I'll try my best to keep them in line.

I'm your other new housemate. I'm Nasuti Yagyu. Lily Evans right? Or are you Potter already? [She wasn't sure if she missed that one detail]

How thorough! I expected that humans and Hylians shared a similar family structure, but the similarities are actually quite astounding. Thank you for the write-up.
