Notes: Slightly AU towards the end. Lost isn't mine, these 2 characters (sadly) don't belong to me! This is my first fic, so please be gentle. However constructive criticism isn't bad.
Summary: My silence solidifies, until that hollow void erases you, erases you so I can't feel at all
Snippets of. Charlotte’s and Daniel’s relationship.
A/N: Written for my sister. Happy birthday, I hope you like this. I realize it’s weak, and a bit repetitive, so I apology! It’s my first attempt at this. The Italicized words at the beginning of each section (as well as the summary) are song lyrics that represent the coming passage! I've put the song list at the bottom of the story if anyone is interested.
*Maybe I'm A Girl And Maybe I'm A Lonely Girl Who's In The Middle Of Something That She Doesn't Really Understand
Charlotte's confused. She doesn't know what she's looking for. Some sort of place she could call home, a comfort. Through Daniel is where she found an answer, a feeling of clarity. She's aware that he’s more lost than her; he may need someone to look after him. She doesn't completely mind. The fact that someone else needs her, a man, makes her feel safe. In a strange way, Daniel Faraday is just what Charlotte Lewis needed.
*Falling slowly, eyes that know me And I can't go back
She would be insane to call this Island home. But she couldn't go back; she found what she wanted, in a way. Daniel felt he knew her. He truly depended on her. When he looked in her eyes he was safe. Whatever was home to her was to him as well.
*And the dreams that you dreamed of once in a lullaby
At night he'd ramble, looking through his journal. Trying to figure out the latest mystery the island had to offer. Charlotte would never tell him to stop, even as she tried to fall sleep. The babbling was like a lullaby helping her falling into an easy sleep. Charlotte couldn't tell if it was a coincidence but she always seemed to have nice dreams when she fell asleep to the sound of his low voice.
*I don't want to leave her now. You know I believe her now
Daniel loved her. The Zodiac was waiting. Was she really looking for where she was born? He had to believe her, but he had to go. He wouldn't forget her, he couldn't. She was his now, she'd wait. He'd be back, just for Charlotte .
*Here I am, and there you are I admit there are times I wish I was home
They were together. When he returned eventually from his "trip", Charlotte spent all her time with Daniel. But this new life wasn't great; they were still on this island. Not exactly what Charlotte was looking for? Their love wasn't strong enough (yet) and at times she wishes she was at some place she could really call home. So did he, he didn't remember what his home was. But when they choose it Daniel wants her with him. For now this Island will have to settle
*Colder, crying over your shoulder Hold her, tell her everything's gonna be fine.
Charlotte didn't cry, she could barely remember the last time she did. Jin's threat pushed a button she didn't know she even had. This fear she had, that Daniel would be hurt, she'd lose him. He'd lose himself. When she saw him sleeping she lost it, Charlotte loved him. She wouldn't ever admit it; she didn't fall in love easily. At the strangest of times (now) she did. She let the tears stream and as he woke he told her things were going to be okay. He didn't think it was true, but he said it. And with Charlotte in his arms, Daniel might have almost believed it.
*Sleight of hand and twist of fate on a bed of nails she makes me wait And I wait without you
She frustrated him sometime; he couldn't understand why she played such a sly game. But he wishes she could calm down, come now. It made him crazy. He'd wait for her if he needed. When she found her calm, he could find his.
*Why would you lie about anything at all?
She lied to protect herself. To protect Daniel, to protect the survivors. She lived in a lie, but why she did it she couldn't understand. She felt Dan was the only one who she could tell the truth to, yet she hasn't. She won't.
*But I’m just so tired of this loneliness
They talked at night, the day they spent for 'work' but in their room on the freighter, and their makeshift shared tent, they stayed up and poured words, they'd listen. Sometimes they talked of their past (pieces he could remember) and what their work really was (this intuition that Daniel had, feeling she wasn't saying much). Daniel loved her company, he went so long without telling anyone what he truly felt like, what he wanted to, and he felt that he could say so much now. She didn't. Couldn't.
*Long walks in the dark through woods grown behind the park
She felt that this island wasn't real. She dreamt it up, she would wake up and it was all an imagination of some park gone wild. If she was to wake, she wouldn't see Daniel (her Dan); he wouldn't be next to her. That she fears the most, she hated dreams, she never saw this coming. In a way she was glad.
*Come lay your hands Over mine and it will make us both brave
He wishes he was brave, that he could protect her. Be the one to look out for her, his gallant efforts came through once, offering to go first, making sure the medical station was safe. He had tried before, stepping in front of her when someone had insulted her, but she always was so overpowering.
*I don't wanna be your friend. I just want to be your lover
One empty afternoon, Charlotte spend going through what she had left on the island. She came across the pack of cards she had used to test his memory. She didn't know if she should laugh or cry. His uncertain smile has he got of the Zodiac moments later made up her mind. She threw herself at him, laughing the whole time.
*Pain throws your heart to the ground. Love turns the whole thing around
Eventually, they were rescued, and Daniel found some courage and proposed to Charlotte . "Yes". That moment alone had Daniel's heart feeling the most love he had ever felt. All the lonely he ever experienced throughout time felt gone. Hers did too.
*You know I won't give in
Shortly after their wedding, a small celebration with only a few family members. Old friends, new ones. Daniel started to get more and more forgetful, she knew he was sick (somehow), but in her eyes she saw no difference. He wakes her up in the night 3 times in a row to tell her the same thing. Something about Constants. She knows what it means, she won't lose him. He's hers. After that promise, Daniel got a little better, but he didn't get worse.
*This is the first sound of a newborn child before he starts to crawl
A daughter came into their lives two years after their wedding. Amelia Miles Faraday named after a friend they had lost. The day they brought their child home, Charlotte finally took the chance to sleep. Daniel sat next to his Amelia’s bassinette, staring at her beauty. Her tiny stifled noises made his heart sore. He couldn't lose her. He would be nowhere without his Charlotte . Amelia's face reminded him of so much. That's when he truly knew he made the right choice in loving Charlotte .
*It's not that we're scared. It's just that it's delicate
Charlotte knew nothing of happy endings. She barely knew of happiness a few years ago. Things change, she had once been told. That she can be sure of. She wasn't scared with him, even with uncertainties, this was her new life. The past they barely speak of, it's hard. But the love their hearts held, as delicate and beautiful as it was, spoke of so much.
*If you go, if you go Leaving me here on my own Well I wait for you
After so long. She'd wait, he'd wait. To say what they both needed to. They stayed as a force together in what they did, but often they're souls were somewhere else leaving them to themselves. No matter how strong their love is.
