I loved this. Sorry, I had to comment to say that. XD
J is mostly reactionary in this piece but his presence is still strong throughout it, not to mention Dimitri's presence. She's a force of nature, and her reactions to J were raw and heartbreaking.
And there her throat closes down, because while she can wring out the words under other circumstances, My wings wwere cut off, she will not say them here, not to him.
Thank you! I was not expecting any responses on this, so finding this in my inbox was v. happymaking. ^_^
This is actually the first time I've stuck Dmitri and a non-Thane version of J-- in a room together, and... it's actually kinda fascinating. I love writing Dmitri, especially when she's up against a wall, because for all that she's a brilliant girl, give her a challenge or a threat and in a lot of ways all of her common sense just gets shoved aside in favor of active resistance. And poor J, who's just trying so hard not to make things worse, even when in Dmitri's case "worse" and "better" are not immediately obvious.
...I just wish he'd occasionally listen to what people say to him.
Dmitri will accept all the hugs. And the tequila, the very instant she's off antibiotics restrictions.
