He couldn’t stop shaking.
He hadn’t had much time to talk to Yabu after those few minutes. His phone rang almost immediately after he had started crying in his bandmate’s arms.
“D-Dai-chan?”
“Hey, Yu-chan, where are you? They called us back to the front hall a couple minutes ago, we’ve got another interview to do!”
“Oh sorry, I’ll be there in a flash. See ya-”
“Yu-chan?”
“Yeah?”
“If you see Yabu-kun, can you tell him also? No one can seem to find him anywhere and he’s not picking up his phone.”
“…sure.”
“Thanks, Yu-chan, you’re the best!”
He had looked up at the older boy, trying to put his gratitude into words. Yabu had just smiled softly, wiped away the last of Takaki’s tears and pulled him back into the limelight.
He kind of wished Yabu hadn’t done that.
Takaki had never felt more out of place in his life. While he was a junior, he almost never had to deal with reporters, huge crowds (beyond those at a sempai’s concert), or TV broadcasts almost every second.
Being part of a debuted group was a whole different playing field.
Here, there didn’t seem to be a break from UMPing* his heart out. And even when he wasn’t doing a song, he still had to do broadcasts promoting the single or talk to reporters or address the crowd.
He didn’t know how Yabu did it.
While Takaki was struggling to even keep a smile on his face, his fellow BEST member was waving, cheering, and laughing right alongside the rest of JUMP as they went through press conferences, live TV spots, and all kinds of other craziness, all in the space of a few short hours.
Maybe it was because he was the leader of Ya-ya-yah, the leader of the juniors.
Or maybe it’s just ‘cause he’s Yabu.
He wanted to talk to him. He wanted to shake him, yell at him even. And then hug him fiercely and never let him go.
Why are you hiding, Yabu, he wanted to ask. Why do you keep on smiling…when your eyes tell me you’re about to fall apart?
But he couldn’t even get a word out, not even when the focus of his thoughts came to find him later.
“Hey,” Yabu said, tossing him another soda. “It seems all I ever do with you is pass you a soda, ne?”
It shouldn’t have been funny. But Takaki laughed anyway.
“Yeah…yeah, there’s that.” He managed to say.
Then nothing.
Say something, you twit, he said to himself. Anything…don’t let him leave yet. Not without thanking him.
“Well, umm…” Yabu scratched the back of his head awkwardly.
“Yabu-kun!” Yamada yelled, slamming into the older boy. “Yabu-kun, they said we can take a break for an hour! Do you want to go have dinner with me and Yuto?”
Yabu smiled, ruffling Yamada’s hair affectionately. “Not today, Ryo-chan. But maybe later?”
Yamada smiled despite Yabu’s soft rejection. Takaki figured he was just happy that someone finally called him ‘Ryo-chan’. “Okay, Yabu-kun. But tomorrow…you promise?”
“I promise.” Yabu confirmed solemnly, offering his pinkie in confirmation. Yamada laughed and linked his pinkie with it. “Now go on, Yuto’s waiting.”
“I would have said yes, but Yuto was really looking forward to hanging out with Ryo-chan alone today.” Yabu whispered to him, watching and waving as Yamada ran off. “You won’t tell Ryo-chan, will you?”
Takaki shook his head. Yabu smiled.
“You’re the best, Takaki-kun.” He turned to leave.
“Wait!” Yabu turned around, confused. Takaki froze. Say something!
“Yes?”
“Umm…umm…” His palms were getting sweatier by the second.
Yabu grinned. “I’ll see you later, Takaki-kun.”
He turned to leave. Takaki grabbed his hand desperately.
“Do you want to go out with me?”
Yabu blinked.
AN:THE PV'S UP, THE PV'S UP, THE PV'S UP!
Sorry, I had to celebrate that.
ANYWAY, first off, I want to thank everyone who's read this, especially those who have commented (either to tell me that they love the angst, or Takaki's 'bad boy image', or just to give me some advice with the writing, ^_~). You guys have really reminded me why I love writing so much and it's helped me a lot with my senior project to do this (because I am writing a novel and this is really helping me during those huge amounts of writer's block I've been getting with that project). I totally love all the comments I've gotten, you guys seriously crack me up. Life's been kind of hard recently with my parents cracking down on me even further and college on the horizon and everything. So thanks for brightening my life these past few days, it's really amazing how awesome you guys are.
That being said, hopefully you guys will still like me after these next few chapters.
Especially you angst lovers.
Since the next two chapters really don't have as much of that. SORRY!
I've been really really mad at myself with this chapter and the next one. I actually wrote these two days ago but ssm_kiyumi, my beloved muse, told me to hold off (I need to keep you guys in suspense and whatnot, *winks*). But actually, it's given me a bit of time to think, rewrite Chapter Three a bit (the edited version's posted, it's on the same post as before, hopefully, it's better now), and add in a few things to this chapter. But I'm still not too happy. Oh well, maybe I'm overreacting like I did last chapter.
I'm starting to bring in a lot of the other Johnny's into this, one by one. Daiki has a bit of a role in this chapter, as does Yamada (RYO-CHAN!). I actually loved bringing Yamada into this because he's the only one so far who's been truly, unabashedly HAPPY in this entire fic. So it was fun working with him for all of five minutes, xD.
Starting with last chapter, this is actually going to look a bit more like a normal storyline, with linking chapters and cliffhangers and everything...at least until I get through Chapter Seven ('cause it's leading up to one of the sempai's coming in....I wonder who?). So yeah.
Oh and where the asterisk is. That's actually a reference from Kamichan_ya3 (i think that's his username?)'s blog, heysayheisei. He referred to that period where HSJ wouldn't stop performing UMP for three months as UMPing in his end of the year post last year (I was skimming back through last year's posts to get some background info and some inspiration since I didn't know Johnny's existed until my birthday in January and so I don't know as much about the debut time period). So I'm stealing it and crediting it to him. Hopefully, he won't get mad. If he ever reads this.
Anyway, I'm going to stop rambling and let you guys read. Hopefully, you won't hate this. Please, no flying tomatoes. Please?
Okay, enjoy!
Hopefully.
