So I’ve been thinking a lot lately about bad culture. Not that I am one to pass judgment on culture or anything (I mean, I cried sincerely at Gigli-twice), but I think we can all agree that “As Long As You Love Me” is, at best, an atrocious (albeit catchy as fuck) song &, at worst, a very troubling message to send to preteens (“I don’t care who ( Read more... )

You're talking to someone who formed their definition of love from Shawn Colvin's Never Saw Blue Like That off the Run Away Bride Soundtrack... & in the Dawson's Creek episode where Pacy and Dawson almost make up (and are so clearly & obviously in love). Anyone who scorns pop culture is supressing part of their soul.

Is it maybe sad that most of my early concepts of love came from reading juvenile fiction fantasy books and fairy tales? Mostly the fantasy books, though. :))

Well, and NSync's "This I Promise You," I guess that is a given! And fanfiction, hahaha.

I'm going out to dinner with my parents, because it's their thirtieth anniversary, but I will hopefully talk to you tonight or tomorrow? I love you.

P.S. Also, here is the trailer for Brokeback Mountain if you haven't seen it yet! Even the trailer makes me want to cry, oh man. I am so excited.

Not sad at all!! I mean, it's not as if there were a lot of good sources out there; you take what you can get. Even when it comes from really awful NSYNC summer camp slash, like, um, this: http://www.nsyncfansover21.com/fanfic/campsomewhere.html

It will be so good to talk to you again. I love you, too.

Flkjdsa, so I totally just spent the last half hour reading that! Ohshit, it made me really happy, even though all the Nick Carter parts made me laugh. Popslash is like, the best thing ever. I also had to listen to "Fire and Rain" when Lance sang it! And now I am listening to the Backstreet Boys. Yes.

Ah, let me know when you'll be around? I miss hearing your voice. ♥.

I am around, um, anytime. Seriously. & am so, so, SO glad that you read it!! Because it was the first slash I ever read & I still think it's sort of sweet, aww, like how Lance grows up!! Anyway. Call me anytime; I love you.

Do You mean, what formed our ideas of romantic love as they are now, or what they were like when we were children? When i was a kid, i guess it was Disney movies, maybe? I don't know, i never really thought much about it. It was just sort of there, i guess.

Either would be good to know!! I was asking more about youth, but I'd like to know what formed your ideas RIGHT THIS SECOND, too!!

Disney movies always remind me of the time Ali & I argued viciously over The Little Mermaid & I called him a misogynistic asshole, aww. But I am pretty sure my idea of love was shaped by those fucking films, too; whose wasn't? At least they were better, back then.

*sigh* Madeline is perhaps my favorite song from that album.
I got my ideas of romantic love, honestly, from all those damned long nights of Truth or Truth (which saw a second generation with Hannah after that summer with you).

I think that Truth or Truth was a major factor in my development, actually; it was the first time I had spoken out loud in any way about what I wanted from love. Which is pretty fucking powerful, when you think about it.

Although we also wasted a lot of time wondering where Johnny went; my guess is still suicide.

"Madeline" still tugs at my heartstrings, you know. The way Tay's voice breaks when he says, "Just hold me in your arms," oh shitttttttt!! My psychosexual development, when it comes to boys, stopped somewhere around the time I heard that line, & so fourteen-year old Tay will always be the epitome of male hotness, to me. This is v. unfortunate.
