espn's showing the kop singing you'll never walk alone. be still, my heart.
let's go, reds.
--
better passing than at wigan. it's just. the style of play is different, it's crisper and prettier. it sounds weird to describe footie as "pretty" but it is the beautiful game, after all, and it'sm ore than being aesthetically pleasing- beautiful passing leads to beautiful goals.
25- NANDO GOAL! that was a gift from the keeper, tbh, but hey, i'll take it. there was a split second where i thought maxi was gonna take the shot for himself but the angle was all wrong and the defender was there so i was literally praying for him to pass, and he did. yes yes yes. i love nando goals.
27- BABEL GOAL! this is anfield. this is liverpool. this is football.
general first half point: we're attacking more in this game than we did against lille or wigan. it's lovely to watch. it's like we're having fun playing again.
aside: aquaman has gorgeous hair. (commentators really should stop talking about xabi, it's march for fuck's sake)
31- AQUILANI GOAL! jaja i said i was feeling a goal from him today! also, nando's backheel pass...reminient of guti? perhaps. god, this feels good.
i want another nando goal. i'm trying not to be greedy or anything but really i want a nando hat trick to match pipita and el hobbit.
34- nando hits the post. damn, would've been a lovely, lovely goal. but he's just so on form today, i love it!
34:50- oh stevie. so close!
this is good football from us. each time we go up it's a potential goal- fantastic.
38- insua, don't make me nervous like that. almost thought 'pool would catch the real madrid own goal curse. god forbid.
39:30- we really need to work on getting on the recieving end of set pieces. that's my one grievance with this game so far.
espn's showing a lot of premier league games this week! i like this developement. i think perhaps it's becase of the impending MLS strike, but i wont' complain. god, i don't even have an mls team. whatever. maybe i'll just watch a few games and see who strikes my fancy? if the season ever kicks off, that is.
45- commentators are talking about portsmouth getting a goal to appease their fans. i don't want them to get a goal. i want a shutout. i want more liverpool goals. i'm feeling selfish about this game, normally i wouldn't care as long as its a win. but our boys need this.
HALFTIME: that was a good half, after a few minutes to get going. oh god, commentators just mentioned the mancs. i can't even think about that game. god.
50- damn, stevie. shoulda taken a one touch shot.
53- again, Stevie! I wanted that to go in. so badly.
55- pepe saves the day. again. it was a beautiful save. he’s a fantastic keeper. as much as I lov eiker I’d kind of like to see what pepe does with the spain nt. like, maybe in a friendly against some random country in the second half when we’re already winning. idk.
again, this half seems to be kind of slow to start. but we’re starting to create chances again. I guess it’s a building momentum thing.
59:29- almost goal from maxi. he’ll get there. maybe even in this game. just keep creating chances!
one thing I want to see more of from aquilani, and I know this really isn’t fair because he’s doing a fantastic job in this game: I want him to be more creative. I want him to stop just taking what he’s given and making something out of that (don’t get me wrong, that’s great) and looking at what he’s being given and changing it to suit his needs. if he can figure that out (and as a center midfielder myself, I know how hard that is) he will be unstoppable.
61- kind of selfish from babel. should’a tried to pass. although, hey, a double team’s tough. I get it.
63- almost an own goal from Portsmouth? huh? I mean, hey, I won’t question it but that was weird.
66- I’ll go with the ref on this one because it’s a close close call, but I kind of wanted a penalty for glen.
the momentum of the game’s slowing and we’re starting to get a little complacent, I feel. here’s what I think about that: not okay. we need to keep the pace and keep the scoring opportunities. we need to score more, ideally, so we can lower the goal differential between us and, well, everyone else. we need the confidence boost of a high scoring game going into the second half of the Lille tie and the Man U game. so getting complacent is not what we should be doing right now.
71- Kelly gets his debut. he’s so skinny! and he’s won himself a corner. good for him. it’s kind of weird to see new young players (get ready for many posts about this next season when real Madrid gets canales, dear god, I’m excited for that boy) but I like it.
72- oh Stevie, keep your elbows to yourself! that’s just not on. please don’t do that.
73- Stevie did have a good game, I think. and now we get yossi! I like yossi. I’m glad he didn’t start today, though, because like kuyt, I think he needed a rest.
regarding my announcers: whether or not the game’s won, we should not be stepping off of the gas. we should still be trying for goal. so shut up please.
76:46- TORRES GOAL! NANDO GOAL! fantastic build up and amazingly beautiful shot and this was gorgeous. squeezing his way between two defenders and the keeper had no shot. that was lovely. absolutely lovely. and hey, there’s still time for a nando hat trick…*crosses fingers*
79: damn, I didn’t want nando to be subbed, even though I do kind of like ngog…I wanted a nando hat trick. nando was playing so well, he could’ve done another 10 minutes. 11. whatever.
84: Stevie g does not look happy! yes, you were stupid in that foul and you probably should’ve been carded but be happy, your team’s winning 4-0 and you didn’t get carded. smile.
88: as much as I wanted a pepe clean sheet, that was a nice goal. have to say it. good set up and a nice finish. what can you do.
FULL TIME: this was a good game, despite the slowing down of the second half. and we're still in it for 4th, thank god. we needed this win so badly and i'm so glad we got it. AQUAMAN JUST WINKED AT THE CAMERA WOW HE'S ADORABLE. i hope masch is okay, and i hope stevie g doesn't get carded retrospectively. but all in all i'm happy with this. i'd be foolish not to be! nando had a great game, aquilani had great game. i am happy. i am i am.
